Just for fun:
The Panthers currently have $19MM in cap space. They have 10 forwards, 5 D, and Bob under contract for 2025-2026. Their biggest names not under contract and UFAs are Aaron Ekblad (RHD-29 yrs) and Sam Bennett (C/LW-28 yrs. Unless both guys want more than 10MM/year, I find it hard to believe that both guys won't be back. Barring injury they are going to be a wagon again.
The Oilers have $11.9MM in cap space. They have 11 forwards, 6 D, and Skinner and Pickard under contract for 2025-2026. Their biggest names not under contract are Evan Bouchard (RHD-25 yrs; RFA), Corey Perry (W-40 yrs), Jeff Skinner (LW-33 yrs), Connor Brown (RW-31 yrs), Kasperi Kapanen (RW/C-28 yrs). While I believe the guys outside of Bouchard don't matter a ton from a production standpoint, they do matter from a games played and bodies standpoint. All of those played a majority of the season. With that being said, they are in a much more tedious/concerning position. Bouchard is about to get PAID (talking $10MM/year); McDavid is a free agent at the end of next year and will easily want $15MM/year; and they have a serious goaltender problem. I fully expect them to look to Matthew Savoie next year, so they save money there, but they are still paying Darnell freaking Nurse $9.25MM/year until the cows come home.
