Lot of good we can take from this! Gilbert Rono ran his best race in maroon and white! Chung hesitated a little, but his fitness level is strong and ran well! Munger and Johnston ran great too and Luca Santorum finished strong!

The times are pretty fast today, but cross country is about team score. Not having a top guy hurts. Also, regardless of who it is, our fifth needs to be tighter to our 3/4 guys

There are definitely positives from the day. And even though we lost a lot of runners from last year, the drop off from last years 4th and 6th is painful. Especially on our home course…

BOOM! Aggies land another big time distance prospect on the women's side! Alexandra Fox out of Flower Mound! A teammate of Ava Cole and one of the top runners in the state! She was 5th at state yesterday helping Flower Mound to their 5th straight state title! Placed 5th last year and 3rd as a sophomore! She is just as impressive on the track with insane PR's

Our social media team is really nonexistent… every other school has posted their teams here in College Station! Posted group pictures, teams jogging, the course. But us, absolutely nothing! How do you host a huge meet and not provide any sort of pictures, video, anything… show off our course, our runners! Highlight our seniors who are going to be running on this course one last time like Jonathan Chung and Nicole Chastain… interviews, why do we get nothing as fans! And they want to charge people at cross country meets next year… they don't do anything for the fans!!! lol I was just stalking the competition and got upset with our social media team

How The Meet Works

This is the South Central Regional Championship. There are 9 regions in the country. Ours is consisted of colleges from Texas (aside from west Texas and the panhandle), Louisiana, and Arkansas. This is considered as one of the easiest regions.

To qualify to nationals as a team. The team must place top 2 at regionals. Then the NCAA committee selects 13 at large teams, however it's not probable one will be chosen from our region.

To qualify as an individual, a runner must either qualify with their team or be a top 4 runner not on a qualifying team. This is how Eric Casarez qualified last year and Jonathan Chung the year before. However with the influx of Kenyan athletes even among schools not in contention, it'll be hard to do so.

The distance will be increased for the men. They will now run a 10k, whereas the girls with run a 6k! The difference for the men is huge and abrupt since they don't compete at this distance any other time.

The Competition (men)

Arkansas, Arkansas, Arkansas, Arkansas, and oh yeah Arkansas. They have owned this meet for as long as time goes. On the men's side they are ranked 3rd in the entire country and will be looking to win the national meet. They might not even run all their top guys today and they'll still win the meet. They bought all their guys and assembled an Avengers squad.

Aside from them Tulane is ranked 33rd in the nation and second in the region. They are led by their outstanding freshman Bernard Cheruiyot. A Kenyan. And they have another Kenyan and a strong group of seniors. They won the American Conference meet and will be tough!

Ranked 3rd is tu. They are in a "down year" to their standards, but still strong! They are led by Roger Rivera and Issac Alonzo. Behind them is a little bit of a question mark, but they ran well at sec's beating us and they have historically always rose to the occasion.

We are ranked 4th regionally, behind us is Incarnate Word and TCU.

The Competition (women)

The only team ranked nationally here is Arkansas. And guess what this is there weakest team they have ever assembled. Yet they are the heavy favorites. They have a strong top three of Paitlyn Noe, Mia Cochran, and Sydney Thorvaldsen. Behind them is a question mark and where they are liable. They barely beat Texas at conference because their 4th and 5th were very behind. I wish we were healthy because this is the year to win this…

Ranked 2nd is tu, but I believe Tulane is tougher. They are led by two fabulous Kenyan Freshman. Caroline Jeptanui, and Blezzin Kemutai. They also have a strong contingent of returning girls. They did have a rough race here last year, but they went out and upgraded their team significantly.

Behind there's two are tu and lsu. Tu is led by Eva Jess and Olivia Howell and the emergence of Elizabeth Pickett. This is a down year for them also, but they improved significantly from last year and although no major additions, they added solid contributors to their depth.

LSU is led by THEIR 800 RUNNER WHO NEVER SEEMS TO RUN OUT OF ELIGIBILITY! Michaela Rose and mid distance runner Lorena Rangel Batres who has improved significantly from last season. Their 4th and 5th runners are a liability as well, but their top runners are strong and experienced.

SMU is another team to worry about and they've beaten us this year.

Women's Preview

Our women placed 2nd at this meet last year and qualified to nationals for the first time in 23 years. We only lost one scorer from that squad in Madison Brown. We returned Maddie Livingston, Kennady Fontenot, Shewaye Johnson, and Emma Little. We added a Kenyan runner who has a better PR than all our girls, Debora Cherono, but we failed to get her on campus this semester. We added a fabulous group of freshman led by San Juanita Leal, but she is injured and red shirting this season after showing she's our top runner early on. Maddie Peters has been running well. The surprise of the season is Megan Robert, a redshirt freshman who has thrusted herself into our top 5. Maddie Livingston has been hurt and not racing like herself. Shewaye Johnson was hurt as well and slowly coming back. Emma Little isn't where she was last year. Kennady Fontenot has been our leader and will most likely be our top girl today! Last year she placed 14th, so hopefully she's in the same area this year!

We've been hoping Maddie Livingston can return to full health, but she hasn't! Hopefully today will be the day and she runs like she did last year! We need Kennady to do her thing, she's strong and always reliable! I expect her to have a great race! Maddie Peters has had an excellent season and I hope she roses to the occasion today as well as Megan Roberts! I think Shewaye will be an important part to our team also so I hope she's ready to go and healthy!!! Elise Smoot and Emma Little need to close the gap in case Livingston and Johnson arent healthy!

This meet always comes down to depth! It's important to have 2-3 girls in the top 20/25 and I hope we can do that, we need to! Then we need our 4 and 5 to close the gap and keep it close!!! Arkansas is weak at 4 and 5, as is everyone else surprisingly! So this race more than ever will it be important to run strong!

It's one race, 6 kilometers around our home turf. OUR HOME TURF! This is our city, this is our school, this is our course. We are the group of ladies who made it to nationals last year. We have dealt through setbacks, injuries, losses. We have been doubted all season long, nobody believes in us! But when that gun goes off, the only thing that matters is the 7 girls wearing maroon and white! 12th man please carry our ladies down the home stretch and bring them down one by one!!! I believe in these girls and although it's gonna be a dog fight, let's prove everyone wrong and get back to nationals where we belong!!!!!!!!! WHOOP! FARMERS FIGHT! AHHHHH!

Men's Preview

Losing Eric Casarez is as big of a loss as any, for the longest time he was our leader out there and he was going to race his heart out every race to lead this team. It's hard to replace that, but we went out and got Victor Kibiego. An All American Cross Country Runner from UTEP, however he's been hurt also. He's have us in contention easily and be in the top 3 or top 5 today.

Behind him we have our two super seniors in Cooper Cawthra and Jonathan Chung. However Cawthra is hurt as well and won't run. Chung started the year recovering from an injury, but he's been improving each meet and ran an excellent race at conference. He qualified to nationals 2 years ago and he has the capability to do it again, he represents the Aggie uniform to its fullest extent. So expect a great race from him! It's what he does.

This team is loaded with young talent! A whole bunch of freshman and sophomores led interchangeably by Jack Johnston and Zack Munger. These two have been incredible all season. Johnston ran extremely well last year as a freshman so expect him to lead us along with Chung!

But it was Gilbert Rono who led the team at conference. He took a gamble and went out extremely hard and it paid off! So I'm curious to see what he does in a 10k. It'll be interesting to see who else steps up at this distance, Aiden Gonzalez-Rodiles, Carter Gordy, and Luca Santorum can all contribute and need to close the gap as well!

Arkansas is running most of their top guys will easily win this. They built the avengers (the Kenyan avengers lol) Kiprop may never graduate, they added Yaseen Abdalla, an Olympic marathoner, as well as a handful of other international runners. Texas is in a down year so i wish we had Kibiego and Cawthra. Tulane is a strong team and the favorite to get 2nd.

However, when the guns off, nothing matters in a race like this. It's 10 kilometers of a grueling pace, elbows thrown, sweat dripping down, spikes flying, turns, loops, slight hills, all that matters is who runs the best on this day. A brother for a brother, a man for a man, an Aggie for an Aggie. Let them count us out, let them doubt us, let's line up and run the race of our lives! Let's get our fast and give us a chance, don't let those losers in orange and red and green get away! THIS IS OUR COURSE! NO ONE STEPS ON OUR COURSE AND LEAVES WITHOUT A FIGHT! LETS GO GIVE THEM HELL!!! WHOOP! FARMERS FIGHT!

And I so wish I could be there running around the whole course yelling at our girls and guys! Home meets are so fun and a meet like this is so energetic and chaotic! So I hope the few people that read this board and can make it out there! I'd be there but unfortunately my mom is in hospice and we couldn't transport her over there and I couldn't leave her since we live 6.5 hours away, but I really tried because I wanted to be there so I'll be cheering from home and on my phone! So if you go out there please cheer hard for me!!! I know the runners can feel the home environment, it eases the nerves, it scared the competition, and it carries our runners down the home stretch when they can't feel their legs!! Wear maroon and be loud!!! Gig'em Aggies!!! PACK DALE!
