From a short clip posted by the team, looks like Ellee Stinson was wearing the Libero jersey!

For northwestern last year she averaged 4.41 digs per set, Underwood for us averaged 2.72

Not surprised by this, I alluded to it when she made the switch. She's very good and was one of the more underrated liberos in the Big10. When she made the switch, I knew our passing would improve 10fold

that's what I'm hoping!!! I hope she can elevate that first touch for us and make things easier on Waak and Manning so we can set up our hitters!! And having two defensive specialists in Underwood and Tatum Thomas in the back row alleviate the pressure! That's where a lot of our problems stemmed from offensively, so hopefully it's a great progression for our team!!

I wonder how much time Ellee Stinson got? A lot, I hope. I also noticed in the short clip a certain #9 !!

Any insight on whether we plan to run a 5-1 or 6-2 and who our 6-row outside will likely be? If we have a DS coming in for one of our outsides, we will be running up against sub issues in a 6-2.

Neither look super sharp, but Nebraska is extremely talented. Expected them to be a bit sharper given what they returned

They have some crazy arms and height up front! Some of those swings were lethal

Aside from one match at Wisconsin, our non conference schedule sets up very nicely! Anything more than 2 losses before conference play would be not great!

The floor is much higher this season. I think this team is built for consistency. We added intangibles(like height) and added iq/ball control. We went from a young team to a seasoned team. I don't want to put predictions for this team because there are so many new faces, but I'm excited

Coach mentioned in his press conference we have a ton of Juniors. Nine by my count. Means a LOT of experience. Will be even better next year. But then definitely a reload, perhaps most through transfers.

We started off really well last year but then fell off big time. I think we will have more consistency this year! Sure am looking forward to this weekend!

No, it's not going to be huge reload. The 2025 class is loaded. They will all get 1 season with the current junior class and then take over. That 2025 class will be at least a top 10 class. Potential for them to add a few more pieces, but I expect a few transfer adds.

Thanks for the reminder, forgot how many it was. Looked it up. As of recently, they are:

Kirra Musgrove OPP, S
Megan Fitch OH
Addison Applegate DS/L
Taryn Morris OH, OPP
Mackenzie Collins MB

Any I may have missed?

The challenge will be managing the roster. Currently at 15, and only 1 listed as a senior. House roster limits are 18. That's 4 spots available for the 25 class. Also, only 1 from the 24 class.

Likely need some attrition from the current roster to bring in the 25 class. And we should look at adding some 24 transfers to balance out the classes.

The 26 team (after all the juniors leave) could have the 5 current sophomores are seniors, the current freshman plus a few transfers as juniors, the 25 class as sophomores and whoever the coaches are currently working on as freshman. I think that could be a fairly balanced team with 4-5 in each class to fit the 18 roster limit. Maybe stay a little top heavy with 10-12 juniors/seniors each year and split the remaining 6-8 among the freshman and sophomore ranks.

Excellent comments.

With roster size changes going on I am not sure what the current roster limits are for any sport!

I have always been a fan of 'roster balancing' simply because it is logical. Roughly, a quarter of the team in each class and balancing within positions. Weighting toward upperclassmen always a valid argument because it makes a lot of sense. I am sure coaches in all sports try to achieve this in some way because losing a large percentage of your best players in one year to graduation is obviously not good. I expanded on this subject in the softball forum late last Spring but I know far more about softball than volleyball so certainly best left to the experts on this forum.

But now that transferring is so much easier it makes things harder because a coach never knows if a player will transfer. On the other hand, makes it easier to fill holes in a roster.

Gosh, how many long meetings do coaches have on a regular basis working all of this out? Quite a few, probably!

Looking forward to this weekend - a lot of Aggie sports happening!

Add to that, the new limits aren't real until the House settlement is approved, which won't happen until April 25. And it may not get approved. There are already a few groups that have challenged the settlement for various reasons. I bet it is ultimately approved, maybe with a few tweaks to approve the objectors, probably more around how the money is distributed rather than the roster limits.

I have no idea how you are supposed to build a roster in Dec/Jan when you don't know what the rules will be in April. Plus, you still need the AD to determine how many of the 18 scholarships are actually getting funded.

Trev was talking about the SEC ADs wanting the conference to impose scholarship limits below the roster limits, so that will be interesting to see too.

Lots of things left to figure out that will be imposed on the HC, and not a lot of time to do it.

Coach repeated many of the things he talked about in his recent interviews on TexAgs. But I think I can pass on a few quotes from the article without violating copyright rules:

A&M volleyball is a program on the rise as Morrison enters his second year at the helm. The Aggies made the NCAA tournament in his first season and have a core group of returning veterans that Morrison hopes can set the program up for a strong following act.

A&M returns nine players from 2023, alongside adding five transfers and one incoming freshman.

Preseason All-SEC selections Logan Lednicky and Ifenna Cos-Okpalla lead the way. Lednicky, a junior opposite hitter, led the Aggies in total kills (324) and kills per set (3.62) in 2023. Cos-Okpalla, a junior middle blocker, led the team in blocks (151) and blocks per set (1.62) last season.

Morrison said he feels his team is deep and wants to find different ways for different players to come in and contribute during the early part of the season.

"I think it's going to be different every single night, every single week and it might be matchup-based, it might be what we're feeling in that moment, but there's a lot of different people that can add value to what we're doing at different times throughout a match," Morrison said. "I'm excited to figure that out."

The Aggies open SEC play against rival Texas at Reed Arena on Sept. 27. A&M will make a return trip to Austin on Oct. 23. Morrison said he has the game circled because it can draw eyes to the sport. He said the Aggies have plenty of respect for the Longhorns, who are the preseason No. 1 team, but added he wants to take them on.

"I came here to build a program that is in contention with them every single year and pushing for a national championship just like they are," Morrison said. "My biggest thing is it's huge for the sport. I think it's Lakers-Celtics if we do it right, and it'll blow our sport up into something bigger than it is right now."

"I'm excited for what's coming," Morrison said. "I'm excited for the volleyball that we get to see at Reed. I'm excited for the culture we're building around this volleyball program and how that continues to evolve and get stronger and I'm excited about the people Aggieland gets to meet in terms of new additions for our team."

AGGIE VOLLEYBALL SEASON OPENER

Opponent: South Alabama (0-0)
Location: @ South Alabama
Time: 5:30pm

South Alabama is a tournament team who made it to the big dance last year for only the second time in school history! However, they only return 2 starters from that team and have to replace their libero and setter! They have a lot of inexperience!

Things I'm most excited or curious about!

- Who plays libero

- Do we play with one setter or two (Margot Manning and/or Maddie Waak)

- Is our back line improved, especially on serve receive

- Can Emily Hellmuth and Taylor Humphrey provide some solid arms on the outside for us to replace Caroline Meuth and Bianna Muoneke

- Has Ital Lopuyo improved
