Welcome back my track friends! Our favorite track runners will be hitting the road today to travel to the Corky Classic at Texas Tech and boy oh boy will this be a fun and competitive meet! In just our second meet of the season, we will see some Aggies make their season debuts, some Aggies compete in their main even, some Aggies don the maroon and white for the first time, and some great competition!
Last time out, we opened up things at home in the McFerrin 12 Degree Invitational. Our Aggies performed exceptionally well overall with some outstanding individual performances. Headlining these performances was Auhmad Robinson who broke the school record in the men's 300, which was also the 4th fastest time in collegiate history! Our newest Aggie, Russian Pole Vaulter Aleksandr Solovev jumped an amazing height of 18'3. The men's 1000 featured the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th fastest time in school history: Cooper Cawthra, Caden Norris, and Gilbert Rono. Zack Munger and Megan Roberts ran amazing 3000's and Gavin Champ soared to a huge PR of 52'2 in the triple jump.
This week is all about a large group of Aggies making their season debuts! Although we can't get our hopes completely up because A&M is known for registering athlete to only pull them out of the competition lol. BUT we do have lots of season debuts and even Aggie debuts!
Olympic Trial Finalist Jaqualon Scott is set to make his season debut in the 60 hurdles and will have some sold competition! From Kenya, freshman Debora Cherono is set to make her Aggie debut in the mile! She has a listed PR in the 1500 of 4:17! Hossam Hatib will make his Aggie debut in the 400, he has an outdoor PR of 45.12! Cutler Zamzow, Jermaisha Arnold, and Latasha Smith will also run the 400! Winny Bii will compete in the triple jump for the first time as an Aggie in a STACKED field! Aggie wide receiver will make his track debut in the 60! And Jasmine Montgomery will make her debut in the 60 and 200! Kimar Farquharson and Caden Norris will run the 800! Luca Santorum will run the 1000
Still no running yet for Sam Whitmarsh or Victor Kibiego. On the women's side San Juanita Leal and Sofia Iakushina are still not listed either. We'll have to wait another week for Auhmad Robinson to make his 400 debut as well!
This will be a fun two day meet to follow! I'm excited to see how our new Aggies will compete and how we elevate our performances with more competition! Tech and Florida are always stacked in the men's sprints and horizontal jumps! Kentucky will bringing some elite sprinters too!
The events I'm looking forward to the most are the men's 60 hurdles where Jaqualon Scott will face off against Antoine Andrew's and Malachi Snow of Tech and the men's long jump, where John Baker, Khybah Dawson, and Mason Mangum will face a talented field! I'm excited to see Farquharson, Norris, Cooper Cawthra, and Grant Ashby in the men's 800. The women's and men's mile will feature a lot of Aggies!
Let's hope for a safe drive to Lubbock and a healthy meet full of PR's! A couple of athletes Taylorswift13 has worked with will be competing in the throws as well! Can't wait to follow along all weekend!!! Gig'em! What races are you all excited to see???
