Track and Field is back baby. YOUR REIGNING OUTDOOR TRACK AND FIELD NATIONAL CHAMPION AGGIE MEN and your 3rd place women will begin the 2025-2026 track and field campaign this Saturday for a home meet.
Indoor track season is here and there is so much to look forward too! On both sides we return a strong contingent of athletes, some familiar names like Aleksandr Solovev, Ja'Qualon Scott, Auhmad Robinson, Kimar Farquharson, Antonie Nortje, Blake Harris, Victor Kibiego, Sofia Yakushina, Camryn Dickson, Jasmine Montgomery, Jaiya Covington, Winny Bii, Debora Cherono, Kennady Fontenot, Megan Roberts and so many others.
Additionally, we went out and signed numerous elite athletes through the portal and through the high school ranks. We added a lot of sprinting talent on both sides. On the women's side we added freshman all American Taylor Nunez who can contribute in the 100, 200, long jump and relays. We added through the portal sprinters Anya Jackson, Adrianna Tatum, Ariane Linton, and Aysha Shaheed who are all great 100/200 runners. Jackson and Tatum qualified to the indoor national championships in the 200. They also added some talent in the 400 group which we needed. They added a strong 800 runner from Tulane in Tharushi Karunarathna. Freshman Sophia Bendet is an excellent 800 runner as well and she can also run a strong mile along with freshman Alexandra Fox. Jumping wise we added two strong pole vaulters in Lily Carlson and Magdalena Rauter. Along with long jumpers Morgan Davis who's gone 20'11 and Machaeda Linton who's gone 21'9 and 44'6 in the triple jump.
On the men's side we added talent all around. We added elite sprinters in David Foster, Micah Larry, Richard Lee, and Matthew Maldima. Foster has broken 10 twice in the 100 with just over the legal wind limit and he's one of the nations best in the 60. Micah Larry is elite in the 60 and 100 as well. We added some more strength to the 400 group in Lawson Jacobs who has a best of 45.57. 800 wise we added a 1:45 runner in Reece Sharman-Newell and a 1:46 runner in Peter Narumbe. Sharman-Newell is a sub 4 minute miler along with transfer Youssef Asslouj both at 3:59. Jumping wise Micah Larry has gone 25'11, but we also added Jedidiah Udunna who's gone 26'0. We also added who's gone 52'4 in the triple and freshman high jumper Etoro Bassey who can go 7'4 in the high jump. We also added Solovev's buddy in the pole vault in Oleg Ananev who's gone 18'4. An underrated signing is Henry Zimmerman who's an elite weight thrower and has scored at nationals.
However, I'm hesitant to write out in-depth team and event previews because I know we will see some more additions come January. There will also be a sharp contrast on the men's side between indoor and outdoor due to so many athletes only having one season of indoor left of eligibility. So we'll have to distinguish much more this season between indoor and outdoor.
This meet will be very small without much competition. A few of the only things we can gain from this meet is how some of our newcomers look, which I'm really excited to see. However, our jumpers might be using a short approach, some athletes may be using this to try new things, work on certain areas of the race. It's December, there won't be many, if any, national qualifier marks posted. Our athletes should use this as a benchmark to see the fruits of their offseason labor. However, there's nothing quite more satisfying than spikes slamming the curved track or the runway. The best sport in the world is back folks!! The road to another national title (multiple titles) begins Saturday.
Also this is a fun event to attend before you go watch our fightin Texas Aggie Volleyball team play Saturday Night at 7!
