I know it has been discussed a gazillion times, but would sure like to see us field teams in both sports. I know why we don't (?) but I can still talk about adding both sports to our roster of teams.
Peace for Ukraine!

I don't know why we can't can the WBB program and add Gymnastics, it would be supported far better than WBB. I wonder if the tv contracts make schools keep this program. Every team across the county is bleeding money from WBB. Doesn't make sense to me.

I think they could be added, but it'll take a billionaire donor to foot the bill.

If there ever was a club sport it is Equestrian. We are one of just a handful of schools to have a program and only 7 of our peer large schools across the country have a program:

Auburn
Baylor
Oklahoma St.
Georgia
SMU
South Carolina
TCU

There are about 20 other schools that have a program and about half of those are D2 or D3 level schools where the girls are likely paying for everything associated with participating.

I don't understand how WBB loses so much money compared to other sports at every school, even schools that pay their head coach significantly less than we do.

Collegiate WBB on TV is like watching the athletic version of honey boo boo or the view. It's reaks of drama worse than a daytime soap opera. It's not appealing in the least. People (particularly Men) who deal with drama in their daily lives aren't going to watch it and the women don't seem to care. It is an immediate turnoff when surfing through 400 dish channels and the many streaming services on TV these days. With the women in the household It's like the difference between watching Olympic figure skating vs the usa's women's hockey team. OFS wins hands down.

I guess The media moguls keep trying to force collegiate WBB down our throats in the hopes that it will improve the viewership of the WNBA on TV. However the wnba comes across as nothing more than next level WCBB drama. When you are losing both male & female viewers , it does not bode well for your sport.

Women's Gymnastics would be more appealing to watch.

Collegiate men's soccer would most likely over shadow women's soccer so it is understandable why that program is not part of a colleges sports programs

We can't even count on Equestrian to get SEC runner-up anymore. That was becoming one of our most reliable traditions.

They just won the SEC...or was that a joke

Could have both, just need to fund them

Only thing I can think of is the schools divide the cost of operating the arenas in half? I would also assume if MBB flies charter then wbb has to do the same. Maybe similar cost in recurring budgets etc.

But I don't get it, even the most successful programs bleed money

You need a donor to fund them. No way they will just do it out of current funds

Title IX set back men's soccer in this country and I don't know if we'll ever turn it around. We have immense talent all across the state and there is one collegiate program (SMU). Such a joke.

There are approx 22-25 collegiate men's soccer teams in Texas, ranging from SMU, a few UT campuses, WTamu, IW, so on, so on. In addition there are maybe 8-10 club teams from schools like us, Fexas, Baylor, others that play. There are a good amount of teams playing plus a few in Louisiana too. I would suggest that a men's soccer program is cheaper to operate than women's gymnastics but I'd like to see both.

I played club soccer at A&M and we presented it every year to the university. Granted back then Title XI was the major blocker.

Men's soccer is a no go bc the SEC has zero teams doing it.

Gymnastics is a possibility since several SEC schools have teams.

It's hard to imagine this athletic department administration adding any sports. Women's gymnastics would be amazing and there is massive talent in Texas, but the SEC is a juggernaut. Oklahoma, Florida, and LSU are the national championship favorites this season (and in most seasons).

If it were to happen, the best roadmap to success is probably what Georgia and Clemson have done most recently. Each got coaches with significant accomplishments (not up and comers). Each saw very positive results really quickly.

Guess I was working off old info. Still just 3 DI schools though and two of those are Incarnate Ward and UT - Rio Grande Valley. It's sad that we can't get more soccer programs from the big schools. No kid is going to soccer practice 5 times a week dreaming of playing for UTRGV.

There could be a debate that the presence of men's college soccer at all is holding back further development of the professional game and talent in this country.

Doesn't matter UK competes in the Sun Belt for men's soccer and OU competes in the Big 12 for wrestling

Really. OU has had a wrestling team forever and tons of history. They are also playing as an affiliate program in the Big 12.

We are not starting a program from scratch into a conference that has just one team.

You just said no go because the SEC doesn't offer it. We could start a program and find some place to play.

Woke up this morning and saw that Arky is dropping men's and women's tennis. In the grand scheme of things I would never think tennis would be something you would drop to balance the books. Of course Arkansas doesn't generate the athletic funds that we do or say fexas does.

Top revenue producers...
OSU $251 million (1)
Fexas $239 million (2)
Bama $214 million (3)
TAMU $193 million (7)
OU $177 million (10)
ARKY $152 million (20)
MSt $110 million (40)
Tech $110 million (41)
UH $78 million (56)
Hawaii $49 million (70)
UNT $44 million (75)*
SFA $23 million (136)*
SHSU $22 million (147)*
TARLTN $18 million (161)*
CITADEL $18 million (161)*
(And we play The Citadel this year. If we are going to play a Citadel, we should play UNT, SFA, SHSU instead)

Sorry, got off topic.
Peace for Ukraine!

Arkansas refuses to implement a student athletic fee like a lot of other schools do so it hurts not having that extra funding source too
