Big games this weekend. USA/El Salvador, Guatemala/Costa Rica, England/Wales. Unfortunately the US game will conflict with the A&M game and I doubt the bar I am going to see the A&M game at will also have the WC qualifier.

It'll be interesting to see if the US can get 3 points in El Salvador amidst the bags of urine and batteries being lobbed at them. I doubt it and as much as it pains me to say it, a point would be a reasonable result even if it does put a little extra pressure on the final two home games.

Looks like US soccer won 2-0. Looks good to me

Isn't that something like our 3rd ever victory in Central America? If we beat Panama on Wednesday we clinch passage to the final qualifying round with one game to spare.

England is looking scary good right now. With the French team getting up there in age as well as the Germans, this is England's best chance in a long time to win a World Cup. Of course those pesky Brazilians are standing in the way, as well as England not having a quality goalkeeper.

It was the US first victory in Central America in a country not named Honduras. The US has typically owned EL Salvador but that was still a huge three points. Let's finish it off tomorrow against Panama.

England is an enigma. They have a ton of talent but I don't know that they can perform in the big game...at least they haven't yet.

I hope we get the win against Panama. I think we will but you never know.

England reminds me of tu, tons of talent but never really able to do anything with it.

Remember, during Euro2004 England was without Rio Ferdinand.

...and in Korea they had Ferdinand...and 1-0 lead against Brazil...and were up a man for a large portion of the second half.

Besides, not having Ferdinand in the back wasn't the reason why they lost to Portugal. I'm not sure I know why they lost to Portugal but I seem to remember Ledley King playing very well in his place.

I think the t.u. analogy is pretty decent. They have some amazing talent but something always seems to go wrong in their big games. Talented teams become great teams win they learn how to win those games. To date, England hasn't done this but I hope that changes.

Against Portugal, England got that early goal and then defended almost the entire rest of the match. They looked sloppy, unorganized and suprisingly unfit. Portugal definitely deserved the match even if England was robbed of a goal.
It just seems like they produce some of the most exciting talent in the world and then never have a lot to show for it.

Are you talking about England or Portugal? I think that could apply to either.

First off, England does have incredible talent but that is not the only factor involved. Brazil has BETTER talent UNQUESTIONABLY, France used to but now age has placed them a slight notch below England (Zidane has retired from international play).

England will jump on someone and then hope the clocks strikes 90:00. So actually, England sounds more like the great RC Slocum teams. Ones that were the best team in the country for 3 quarters and then would nut up in the 4th. That hurts to type but it is more accurate than the tu comparison.
