This past weekend we flew to San Diego for the Great Western Shootout. 16 teams were there and 8 of the top 10 in the nation participated. Our ranking going into this tournament was 22 nationally and we pooled with the #5, 10 and 20 teams on Saturday morning. We went undefeated Saturday beating Cal-Berkley(5), Illinois(10), and San Diego State(20). On Sunday we lost to Cal Poly(#14) and beat Purdue(17). Then we started the playoffs and lost to UC San Diego. Overall we played well but wished we could have won it all. By the way, Cal Berkley ended up winning the tournament and will probably be the #1 team in the nation,.....and we beat them!

I'm not sure what we will be ranked yet but as long as we go into natonals in the top 15 we should be great. Nationals is April 14-17th so we got a few more weeks to prepare.

Our conference finals are being hosted by us at A&M on April 2nd. Come out to the rec center and watch us play and hopefully win our conference. Play starts at 9.

Edit: We were picked to win our conference!

I must be out of it. Is this club or NCAA???

It is club, however, because of the setup for NCAA championships in Men's Volleyball(All D1,2,3 can compete for the title together) some D2&3 schools compete with us. We are club but will play D2 and 3 and community colleges as well as other club teams.

Along with men's soccer here we are waiting in line for NCAA status (hopefully)......but we probably won't get it due to the logistics of playing teams on the east and west coast whereas soccer has teams closer to travel to.

Matt_phel:
Interesting point you make about trravel. Whenever I bring up the point about a men's soccer program, 99% of those who respond claim nobody in Texas except maybe SMU and Trinity play the sport. Now, you are saying the same thing about v-ball; frankly, I have always wondered why we don't have both teams for that matter. I know about Title IX and such, but having a mens v-ball team can't be much more expensive than having the women's team we have now, and the same for soccer also.

I'm sure Tile IX has some to do with both soccer and men's v-ball, but for v-ball it really is travel. There are not any D 1,2, or 3 teams in Texas that have NCAA men's v-ball. I can get you a list of the states that do and it will show that the teams are in Ohio, Penn, New York, California Utah, Orgeon, Michigan, Indiana etc. Either north eastern or west coast. Therefore, traveling to those places twice a week during a season(which is about 50 games) would be too costly for the school. That is my opinion because I know that title IX is not the source of the problem but a factor.

PS. I looked it up......21 D1 schools have Varsity Men's Volleyball

Edit: We have a women's team over a men's because there are schools within the region that also have women's teams (OU, tu, Nebraska, Baylor etc.)

Matt:
I'm from So-Cal, so I know about UCLA, USC, LBSU, SDSU, Peperdine, etc.

I am not blaming Title IX; you are correct it is a factor. On the other hand, it is interesting that men's V-ball is not played at TAMU (no high school programs?) I think it would work here, but of course, if it is not played in high school, it won't be played in college...

It is slowly coming along in the high schools...obviously it is concentrated in dallas and houston but there are very few of those. the guys on the team here who played in high school did not play on a school team but on a club team. so most high schools do not have the teams just yet but i have heard of more schools adding those teams.

We won our conference beating Texas State in Two games. Earlier we beat Baylor, TCU, and Texas II to make it to the finals. We beat TSU 25-20, 25-15. Nationals is next week in Kansas City, MO. We should go in ranked in the top ten and I'll let all know how we do when we get back. Thanks for the support.

We are playing at the Convention Center Downtown. I don't know the name but it is nectto the Mariott. We start play Thursday morning and then the finals for Div. I, II, and III are Saturday evening. If you have some time come on by and grab a schedule to see when we play.

We are headed to Kansas City this week for the Volleyball nationals. Wish us luck as we have a very high chance of coming home with a championship! I'll post back here early next week to let everyone know how we did.
