Are we the only university to have a golf course on campus? I can't really think of another university that would have the space to have a golf course like us.

I wouldn't consider that a golf course. More like a goat pasture. Better served if they did raise animals there. Maybe pet Reveille's?

Arizona State has a great one.
Karsten, the Ping company founder donated the money to build it.
I've never played it but it gets good reviews in all the golf publications.

I've never really understoof why people ***** so much about the campus course being in such poor shape. Sure they could make it nice, take better care of it, but if they did, it probably would cost more than $15 (or whatever it is now) for a loop.

I think its more important to have affordable golf on campus for poor college kids to continue to play while they are away at school and to allow new golfers to take up the sport.

Some halfway decent cart paths would be a nice addition though. I usually walked when I was in school, but have ridden a couple of times in the last couple of years and it can be pretty rough. They need to send you out with 4-wheelers instead of golf carts.

And for the record, SWT also has a course on campus, right across from their football stadium. I played it a couple of weeks ago. Not a paticularly good track but not terrible (for a cheap 9-hole). We were playing in a fairly hard rain though, so it wasn't a great time to evaluate it.

I think that Ohio State has at least two. The Scarlet course has hosted many NCAA championships.

LSWho has a course on their campus which is basically equivelent to tne Navasota Municipal 9 hole course. I have been around both.

UNM has one or two courses either on campus or right around there that are or at least were top 10 campus courses, and one was a top 25 course in the country at one point in time.

Ok one of you rich alum lurkers out there step up and donate a couple of mil to fix up the on campus course. Hire Maggert to re-design and for god sakes if ATM can make maroon blubonnetts, seedless watermelons, and sweet onions then they can design a grass that will cure my slice!

Tech's is nice, but I would rather play at Lubbock Country Club or Lakeridge any day.

Michigan State has one. A golf ball came off that course and hit my rental car once.

Many of the courses mentioned are not on campus or not in the same way A&M's is on campus

Rocks is right. Our course could not be morecentrally located relative to campus. The course was "playable" when I was there. I actually thought the greens had a lot of "Oakmont" potential.

I've never seen more sandy brown than the grass in lubbock. Hard to hit well when you can't see through the dirt storms.

The course is rated 12th in Texas by GD.

I don't put any faith in these rankings. Las Colinas CC is better than at least 2 or 3 on the list of Texas ones that I've played, and reportedly better than several others that I haven't.

If you're interested (???why would anyone care) go to the TT Womens Golf Web page and click on "The Rawls Course Photos" or Photo Galleries, "Jeannine McHaney Invitational" and you'll get to see the amazing elevations the course has to offer! I haven't seen it in person but I will soon. The Aggies play their Regional tournament there next week. I'll post again if it's as great as the hype!

Come on, the TT golf course is not on campus.....plus it sure is not college student friendly with a green fee of $50 + dollars.

I played today 27 holes at A&M (beautifull day) and the course is actually in the best shape that I ever remember being.........and I have played this course since '89.

Now if you f**ers would fix your dibots, the greens would be in a lot better shape.

I may be wrong, but the golf couse may serve as storm water drainage area for the campus. I also remember hearing the school wanted to maintain that as a green area with no development.

As far as the condition, when I was there (86-90), the golf course could only use limited amounts of water. I do not remember if that was due to cost or conservation. When I used to play the course, they only watered the greens.

I would rather the keep it as is, than improve and have to raise cost up so students could not afford to play.

Don't know if its on campus or not, but Duke has a top-notch course that has hosted the NCAAs I think.

A&M's course right now isnt near as bad as people make it out to be. For 15 bucks or whatever it is you cant expect that much, but all things considered (it being right on campus, being able to walk on basically whenever you want, etc...) its pretty decent. Like someone else said, its in better shape now than I've ever seen it.

To me it is the best $9.00 green fee course you can find. Show up at 4:00PM M-F and only pay $9.00. And the course is not in bad shape at all. Some of the greens could use some work still, but they are getting better.

Before the course was redesigend, it used to play 5-10 strokes tougher.

Whoever came up with that idea should be forced to repay the $$$$ to redesign the course.

During the late 1960's Bobby Nichols and Billy Martindale would come down for a fundraser for the golf team and could not break 70 which was par at about 7,100 yards.

The greens were always great and the fairways were above average even with players who did not always know how, or care to repair divots or ball marks.

What a waste of a good facility.

Tech's course was recently voted the #2 Best New Affordable Course in America by Golf Digest, as well as a top 5 collegiate course.

As for the designer, his name is Tom Doak. He also designed Pacific Dunes in Bandon, Oregon.
