Glad we got that win against Costa Rica...even more glad that we have KK in goal for us..what an awesome second half he had. Hopefully we can pretty much clinch a spot by beating Panama Wednesday. When and where do we play Mexico next? I hope we get it together better by that time.

We play Mexico September 3 in Columbus.

Costa Rica was a nice win. Keller had a great second half. The defense basically sucked, Convey looked confused for most of the game, and Josh Wolff is still way overrated, but it was something to build on.

I was happy that the team showed that someone besides Eddie Johnson is actually capable of finishing on occasion, which I had begun to doubt.

That cross to McBride by Wolff that lead to the second goal was nothing to sneeze at. I was only able to watch the first 15 minutes of the second half (which apparently was the only time the US looked vulnerable) but I'm not sure we are as deep as I thought. The game against Panama will be tough, no doubt. We were lucky to get a draw last time and Panama will know that they really need 3 points to get back in the thick of things. I'd be happy with a point.

Yeah, Wolff had a couple of nice plays--he always has one or two, but he's also out of position a lot and mishandles the ball once or twice every game. He's just not consistent enough, IMO. If we have to start someone besides Johnson or McBride in the front, I'd like to see Conor Casey get another shot. Or even Ching. But maybe Wolff just needs some more playing time to come around.

I won't be too worried if we only get one point at Panama, but I certainly will not be happy.

You're right that this team isn't very deep right now. Of course, some roster and lineup continuity would help. It seems like every game, we start four or five players that didn't start the last game.

Ching is hurt and thus not an option and Casey hasn't impressed too much in his last few appearances. Besides, I'm not sure pairing either with McBride is a good option as they are all similar players...strong in the air but have difficulty creating their own shot. I think Bruce is playing Wolff simply because they have played a lot together in the past and hes trying to get at least some consistency out of all the injuries that have beset the team.

Tomorrow's game is on tape delay at 10:30 (I think on one of the Spanish channels) and at midnight on ESPN2 (although soccernet makes no mention of that so I'm a little skeptical)

The last game against Panama was tough but if I remember correctly, the conditions were horrible. The field was almost under water. Sloppy conditions always favors the underdog, especially if he is at home. We are by far the better team than Panama hopefully we come out tomorrow and prove it.

I agree with everything you said. Unfortunately, the field conditions are expected to be the same. The difference this time is that Panama had momentum coming into the first game whereas now they are playing with urgency knowing they need three points. That could either make them tight or cause them to put the US under pressure which generally speaking the US doesn't handle well on the road. In any case, we'll all find out tonight.

And if anyone is interested, the US U-20's start their WC this Saturday at 10:30 AM CDT against Argentina on FSC. Their group is brutal (Germany is in it as well) so just advancing from group play will be a challenge but we have a strong team so its possible.

I forgot Ching is hurt, too. It's a bad time to have so many injuries.

Why isn't the game televised live tonight? I can't even get it on Telemundo because Mexico is playing at the same time.

I was in Salt Lake for the game... Keller played great, and we were creative in the attacking third. 40K fans and it felt like a true home field advantage. I disagree that Josh Wolff is overrated. Remember, he's just getting back from injury. When everyone's healthy, Arena's depth chart up top is this:
McBride
Johnson
Wolff
Ching, Casey, others

Are you serious tool? Did you try looking at www.ussoccer.com?

game was tape delayed on espn2 at midnight bro..total domination by the us.

Id actually disagree with most of you and say this team is deep, and the more playing time our young, very talented players get, the more it will increase.

About what? I asked why it wasn't televised LIVE. I posted that message at 12:51 PM, not AM. I knew when the tape-delayed showings were, but I wondered why it wasn't a live broadcast.

Maybe you didn't see my "USA 3-0 Panama" thread. I certainly enjoyed watching the US performance tonight.
