That has to be the worst name for a professional stadium that I have ever heard. I mean I've never liked the idea of selling naming rights to a company but I realize that its part of pro sports in the US. But seriously, can't you find a company that allows for the name to roll off the tongue a little better? Some FC Dallas fan needs to develop a catchy nickname quickly so that name is never used.

The Hut

But stadiums have been named after companies for as long as I can remember.

Wrigley Field for example.

You just get used to some of the names

Invesco Field at Mile High
Safeco Field
Petco Park
Comamerica Field

yeah, i was pretty disappointed in the name. Hopefully it can be referred as something like FC Dallas Field at Pizza Hut Park...but I doubt it because I read in an article that they like the word park because it's like St. James' Park (Newcastle) and Goodison Park (Everton). yeah, sure...whatever. If FC Dallas is trying to create a fun family atmosphere that will attract young kids, then this works well. However it's not an image that attracts me. But it's also a 20-year commitment, which is huge as far as revenue is concerned and when you compare it to paying rent for the cotton bowl.

Yeah but Wrigley was also the last name of a pretty important person. I don't think people think of the gum when they think of Wrigley Field but rather the famous man the gum is named after.

The others are examples of decent names, unlike Pizza Hut, but they've only come about in the last 10 years or so.

They should have named it Hooters Park. I mean, what 18-35 year old man wouldn't watch a game at Hooters Park.

I like the nickname "The Oven" better than "The Hut". At first I didn't like Pizza Hut Park, but it's growing on me. The stadium and fields around it are going to be first rate, so I couldn't really care less who's name is at the top of it.

You think Petco Park is a cool name?

Maybe you have gotten used to some of the names, but truest me, people all kind of thought twice when the heard most of the company names.

If everyone just refers to it as "The Oven," that wouldn't be so bad. Better than having to say Pizza Hut every time. But I'm all for whatever it takes to get better facilities for MLS.

This isn't like A&M Football, where we have integrity and tradition to consider.

I'd say Invesco probably doesn't get their moneys worth, because everyone still calls it Mile High, not Invesco Field.

Same for me with Ameriquest Field in Arlington. I will just call it "The Ballpark" until I die.

Actually in Denver they call it Invesco

Is the stadium on schedule? My brother and I are interested in going to the opener but don't want to get tickets if there's a risk that the opening might be delayed (currently scheduled for August 6 I believe)

As far as I know, the stadium is right on schedule. I highly doubt that they would annouce a delay a mere 2 months in advance. I'd buy tickets if I were you.

As dub said...obviously a few people do. Apparently those they do give a **** are also the ones that can count too.

Its already been delayed to august, so it should be on time for that. I will be there, just like Ive been at the cotton bowl. Especially now that we have a world class team when we are healthy, imo.

Finally went ahead and got our tickets, so we'll be there. This is, I'm ashamed to say, my first MLS game in person. I've been trying to go to one in Dallas for a few years, but I'm finally gonna make it.
