The NHL signed a two year deal with the former Outdoor Life Network owned by Comcast, which will show games 1 and 2 of the Stanley Cup (the rest of the Stanley Cup Finals will be on NBC). ESPN chose not to match Comcast's offer.

This comes on the heels of ABC/ESPN announcing that all matches from World Cup 2006 in Germany will be shown live in HD. In addition, ESPN is increasing it's exposure of European Champions League soccer to two matches a week during during the competition. Who would have thought 10 years ago that soccer would pass hockey in television exposure?
