The US beat Mexico 2-0 and is headed to Germany!!! Something to brighten my day after the football game...

Awesome match. Could clinch a ranked seed spot for USA in next year's World Cup.

WHOOP! We're gonna dominate next summer! I can't wait to get up at 3am to watch the games live!

This seems like something that should be posted on the football board before the season starts. We'll be good, but we're still not good enough to dominate anyone who's Round of 16 material.

And you won't have to wake up at 3am to watch the games either. The earliest games won't start till about 7ish here and the late games will start close to noon.

I frickin live in Germany, but wasn't thinking about when the WC would be played and have already made plans to come back to Texas in mid-June.

BTW, CadeLBB, it looks like I'll be back for New Years.

Didn't we just beat Mexico 2-0?

We did, but from what I've read it wasn't domination. We can beat the CONCACAF teams, but have yet to prove we can hang with good European teams. Sometimes scores can be misleading.

FIFA has Mexico ranked #5 and USA ranked #6 in the world. Like every poll, it's not perfect, but somebody respects our level of play. I'm not ready to proclaim us champs, but we should be a factor.

We did make it to final 8 last time. Played great but lost to finalist Germany. That proved to world, our team, etc that we can compete. Only people that need convincing is the American public.

Game on Saturday. First game was sloppy and lotsa fouls for both teams. Second half was domination. I can't think of a single position that Mexican outplayed his American counterpart. We got 2 goals quickly. Mexico wasn't able to do anything. Keller made one good save off freekick in 1st half injury time. I can't remember any other scoring threats for Mexico.

As long as Keller stays healthy, we've got a shot to win every game we play.

In that case, can I stay in your empty house?

I wouldn't say we dominated Mexico but it was very convincing. The defense allowed nothing with the exception of the free kick at the end of the 1st half. Onyewu completely marked Borgetti out of the game.

Food for thought: The U.S. has never won a game in Europe...ever. In addition, the US hasn't done well in the past where the other team has had a home-field advantage. With the WC being in Europe, any European team the US faces will have a huge home-field advantage. I'd be happy with getting out of the group stage. Anything else would be icing.

That might be well and good for the old US team, but this is a new era. These are world class players, who expect to win no matter who they step on the field with. We have the ability to win it all, but we will see if we realize it.

The US has won in Europe before. They beat Poland in Poland last fall. They've also won several other matches in Europe. But your point is right, our overseas record is abyssmal.

That's why clinching a ranked seed is critical. It will be tough enough competing in Europe. Will be extra tough if we get a tough group draw.

Ahh yes...I forgot about that Poland match, you are correct. If memory serves me correctly, Beasley scored in a pretty ugly game. But you did get my point, the US hasn't fared well in Europe.
