I just gotta say - he is a dismal athlete. About as self centered as they come and doesn't deserve any support from the US Olympic committee and the US fans. He invested nothing in the Olympics and got nothing. I hope he loses all of his sponsors after his pathetic showing in Torino.

Contrast to Apolo Ohno - who doesn't whine, who skates to win, and believes in the idea of winning for the home country.

Yeah, that interview after his 2nd non-finish was kind of strange. I'm really glad he got to live a lifestyle since that was most important to him rather than..say...being competitive.

So why do ALL US Olympic athletes deserve our support? Just because they have red/white/blue uniforms? A few, like Bode, obviously make no effort whatsoever to represent the USA well.

Agreed Spicewood. I will liken Bode to Sasha Cohen, who, after a suggestion by her coach to go through her long routine the day before the final, decided she didn't need to. Then, when he showed up alone at the practice session and was asked to describe his realtionship with her, he said, "Yes, Sasha. Yes, Sasha. Yes, Sasha."

I was listening to sports radio the other day and they mentioned how many of these athletes don't "need" the Olympic gold anymore in sports like skiing and figure skating because they can compete in events year round and make a good living. They don't need the gold for endorsement deals to make a good living. As a result, they have lost the true amateur competitive edge of wanting to win.
