There was a lot riding on this match for him I assume. Besides I assume beating texas helps with recruiting and all that so there are many other elements that come with beating or losing to texas

I would like to take this opportunity to say the match on Sunday in Austin was one of the best overall competitions between the two schools.

Texas A&M came out with more energy in the doubles and took a big lead quickly at #3. At #2 they scored a break midway through the match and it held up. Texas won at #1 but coming out of the doubles it was obvious ATM had the momentum.

The singles were well played on both sides. Both teams had some overules by the official. The official at #2 made and overule on Pollock at set point. Pollock called it out and the official said it was good. I didnt have a good angle to see it, however I find it interesting how officals choose to rule in those circumstances. Some will make the call on the far sideline from the chair while others will not.

Both teams are very good. Connor Pollock is a stud and will win a lot of matches at ATM. I believe the difference in that match was the overall experience of having a 5th year senior vs a true freshman at crunch time. Gubser made the plays he needed to make to win the match.

Both teams have great chances to reach the final sight for the round of 16.

Until next time....Hookem

Thsnks, Rik. Proud of this team, they are young, talented and home grown. We are very proud of them, and the future of Aggie men's tennis is very bright. We won last year, will win again next year, and if we meet in the Big 12 championships, we may see a different victor.

If Texas and ATM play in the finals of the Big12 the AGs will have beaten some stiff odds. OSU in the quarters, BU in the semi's. Going to be a hot weekend in waco. As for the future of tennis in the conference it will continue to be a war. There are just so many great programs. Reguardless of what we think, bear is not going anywhere, cowboys are established, horns and ags the same. Sooners are bettter than they have been in decades and Tech is well coached and talented. Will the huskers survive? Which takes me to my next point.

My biggest concern now shifts away from pro players, which is a topic too long ready for the trash heep, to the survivability of college tennis as a whole. CU played like champions this season after announcment of their demise at the hands of budget cuts. Who is next? OH, Texas and ATM will be around but who will they play? Who is the next program to get the axe from athletic dept. expense cutters?

Thoughts?

Raven...he will get over it. Coaches always do.They have to, there are still matches to be played. And there was no hooking on that call. The official overuled the player who called it out. So no Horn heartburn on that one.

Ric: You are right. That call was certainly not on Roger. Your earlier analysis of the Roger/Conor match was right on point in my opinion. By the way I here that it is possible that the Colorado program will be spared the budget axe because they have been able to raise some money to support the program. Time will tell I guess. Thanks for the nice comments about the Mitchell Maniacs (the kids in yellow). I will pass it on. See you in Waco.

does anyone know of a "make up" doubles session(since they didnt get to play doubles when the ags were up in boulder?) on thursday in waco between the aggies and colorado?

they wont play doubles because the outcome of the match is already determined so its insignificant...i dont see the coaches wanting to waste time on playing a meaningless dbls point the night before mostly the day before is a light 1 hour get used to the environment practice

Rav...have not heard about CU being spared the axe from their budget cuts. It would be a first if it did. When schools announce programs are being discontinued it is usually over.

Texas and Baylor will get home regionals. Do the AGS have to win the Big 12 tourney to get one as well? Looking at the new rankings the match between Ok ST and ATM might be the difference in getting into the top 16 and hosting even though ranking in the top 16 doesnt guarantee a host site.

Thoughts?
