At first I wanted to blame the weather and just having to deal with the afternoon wind, but we are 8th amongst the late starters. Now, granted, all of the early starters are considered a lower ranked team than A&M so maybe there is a little bit of help with the weather. I did state in a post yesterday that the wind changed from 5 mph in the morning to 12 mph in the afternoon. If weather is the main factor in our lower than acceptable score then we should see a definite change today. However the double bogeys have got to stop.
On the day, A&M had five double bogeys. The average thus far for all teams is 2 1/2 per team. This has got to stop if we are going to get back in this thing. If those doubles are changed into bogeys, we would end up 1 under par. If those are changed into pars, we would 5 under par. Even though we had some blunders, we still showed some pop on several of the holes.
In the first round, the Aggies amassed a total of 16 birdies with one eagle. There were only 4 eagles on the entire course, so we know that this team has the potential to light it up. Eighteen total strokes under par is an incredible feet. This is one of the problems that our ladies had in Columbus and that is taking advantage of the holes that are giving up the low scores. The two easiest holes, #2 and #16, we accounted for 9 strokes under par with a lone bogey. On the second, all five of our players had shot under par. At this point in the round there were sounds of the pitter patter of little Aggie feet all over the world with anticipated excitement. There are still some holes that we struggled with that we need to capitalize on. Holes #6 and #9 rank as the 3rd and 5th easiest holes on the course. We accounted for 9 pars and a bogey. The only thing I can say about this is maybe we let our dissapointment of going from -5 to E on holes 3 and 4 take over us and we ended the front nine without that strong gung-ho spirit we started the round with. This is a very tough course and we need to just take our advantages when we can and escape from the many traps that the course can throw our way.
The weather should have us starting at a cosey temp of around 60 degrees, a little too chilly if you ask me, with the wind at a steady 5-6 mph. By the time the late starters are really getting into their round, the wind could be gusting at up to 13 mph.
I would anticipate the scores to continue to be low with the Aggies shooting under par today. I would also expect to see Robert and Bronson come out with a fire like none other.
We will be teeing off from the 10th starting at 9:50 am CT. I will have updates throughout the day, but I am extremely busy with a 10 million dollar bid today, but that's not holding me back!!
Please continue to yell and get excited for the Ags cause they need it. This team is very talented and can throw out some impressive numbers in a quick blink of an eye!!
Gig 'Em Ags!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
