Does anyone think the racism that looks to be prevalent in the Euro leagues will lead to some of the better players coming to America to play? The question I have is whether the racism is nearly as prevalent as the sportcenter episode shows?

I would think that America doesn't have near the displays as seen in the episode???

Thoughts?

I dont think it will bring players over here. The racism thats going on now has been around forever. I don't know why the news waited to tell about it now. I remember hearing about George Weah having to deal with this crap 10 years ago.

America does not have the $$$ to bring big name players to the MLS. We dont get near enough support to bring anyone of world class caliber from europe, no matter what race. Maybe if we pull off one of the biggest upsets ever and win this world cup, and the US decides to give a crap about soccer, we can get a few clubs to put up the big bucks necessary to bring an Henry or Ronaldinho over but i doubt it

The thing is this: Is racism in soccer more preavalent in Europe than it is in America? Most assuredly yes. Is it so bad that elite players will sacrifice playing in the best leagues in the world for $100,000 a week? No way in hell.

The problem is bad...and it is a problem that needs to be dealt with because even one incident of fans waving bananas at black players is unacceptable. However, I think the US media reports on the racism disproportionately. In mainstream media, serious attention is given to soccer in two ways: during the World Cup and in regards to racism. This makes the casual fan think that racism is more prevalent than it is. It is a big problem but not as bad as the average American sports fan thinks it is.
