My wife and I watched the game last night in a United Arab Emirates restaurant in the middle of a whole group of Iranians. We were the only 2 in the whole place rooting for Mexico. Needless to say, we weren't overemphatic with our outward excitement when Mexico scored, but it did feel good. Many of you can bash Mexico and their fans, but we all have idiots in our country. I am anti-amnesty and hate illegal immigration, but for the most part, Mexicans don't hate America or everything American. The opposite is true in much of Iran and much of the Arab world. It felt good to see Mexico win. I can't wait for the Americans to destroy Italy and the Czech Republic. We may be ranked high by FIFA, but I can assure you that much of the world still thinks we suck at soccer. I live in the UAE and it is a melting pot of expatriates from all over the world, and most of them think we are ranked way too high. It would be nice to see us earn a little credibility in this tournament.

That explains your angst @ forwards and diving. If the ref is close (Within 20 yards or so), he or she should be able spot it.

Yeah, like Mexican soccer fans chanting "Osama, Osama" during a "friendly" with the US team. Can't buy that kind of class no matter how many pesos you have.

PBAggie,
it's kind of funny that you mention how the US constantly beats Mexico yet the particular game where Mexican fans chanted "Osama, Osama" resulted in a Mexican victory.

Also, to all the people on here posting their racist bs, is it really necessary? If you hate illegal immigration, fine but why the comments about dishwashers and such?

Yeah, the one time Mexico beats us in something like eight meetings, they tarnish it with the Osama chants. Proves my point. And was I accused of posting racist material? I posted indefensible justification for why I don't care for the Mexican national team or their fans. Again, please tell me where I'm off base here? This has nothing to do with illegal immigration or any of that stuff.

I fully support PermBasinAg...

He has only presented facts of why he hates the Mexican Team. "Osama" Chants, Arrogance, Poo-Flinging

hating a sports team (or its fans) is no excuse for racism or racist behavior.

PBAggie,
I wasn't saying that you posted racist material but was referring to one of the other posts on the thread. I agree with you in that the Osama chants were out of line, just pointing out the one example that you brought up happened to be the loss.

Clue for the World Cup people on the "Other Sports" board, no matter what side of the border you are from....in general, 90+ % of the people that show up for ANY athletic event, whether it is soccer, football, golf, rugby, baseball, basketball, softball, lacrosse, hockey, frolf, or competitive pinochle, are bumbling idiots. Therefore, under no circumstances should the crowd at a soccer game be viewed as a representative swath of society.

Here endeth the clue.

The team the world hates is the USA, save for England. And it transcends sports as well.
