played this way in the prelims. Beasley did nothing. Landon and McBride hardly touched the ball. I'm for putting Landon up front . Johnson
did ok. Obrien didn't show the 2nd half - he's
supposed to be a playmaker.

Very embarassing. Can't say I'm surprised, as we were average at best in our warmup matches over the last month. Still thought we'd show up, though.

is it so hard to string together 4 passes? beasly coulndt control anything that came to him, every pass was off target, crosses wernt acurate and the czechs who were supposed to be old and slow, outran and outplayed us. could there be a more sloppy game?
thats about it for us this world cup, we get spanked by italy and maybe (very maybe) win a consolation game in Ghana.

No matter what anyone thinks, the United States will not be a legitimate threat on the international stage in the foreseeable future. It just will not happen. Regardless of what anyone thinks, our best athletes simply will not play this sport. Soccer requires a skill set that someone just one day can't jump up and say "Ya know, I think I will play soccer" and boom take out Brazil. It does require athleticism but also great skill.

I was watching the England game on Saturday. Yes, England played like crap and the nation as a whole is now on suicide watch. Yes, Beckham is past his prime. But notice his corner kicks. They were spot dead on. He put it where he wanted it to go. Compare that to our corner kicks. Not nearly as lethal. And Beckham arguably should not have even made the World Cup team for England whereas he would be the star for ours.

I am going to enjoy the rest of World Cup and appreicate the game for what it is. Now let someone play us in tackle football and we kick the crap out of them.

you're correct. i find it very odd people think our best athletes are actually playing soccer.

football, baseball, basketball, track, tennis, golf gobble up 90% of the great athletes in the nation. soccer gets to pick from the few that CHOOSE soccer over those respective sports, which is FEW AND FAR BETWEEN.

hopefully things change to some extent, but i don't see it happening.

Putrid performance today. Convey, Beasley and maybe even McBride all need to be benched.

I believe the talent is there.
It seemed to be a combination of a horrible gameplan/scheme and extreme lack of execution.

I still have faith that many of the "great" athletes will play soccer. MLS and support of that league is the key.

Guys, are we truly fielding the best soccer team the US has to offer or is Arena playing favorites? I ask this on another thread so forgive me for asking twice, but I'd like to know. I'm embarrassed to say, but I don't watch the MLS so I'm not aware of other talented players that maybe we should be playing. I'm usually watching the English, Spanish, Italian, Bundesliga, Brazilian and some other south american leagues.
Sad thing is I asked to work from home to watch this game...big mistake.

The 23-man roster is pretty close to the best we could put together, with a few exceptions.
Conrad has no business being there. Neither does Berhalter. Albright's not a great choice, either, but both he and Berhalter are only there because others got injured.

The Czechs are clearly a better, but our guys just didn't show to anywhere near their ability today. They were flat and looked beaten from the beginning.

There were also a lot of questionable personnel decisions, and I'm sorry but starting McBride alone up front is just stupid. I called that before the match ever started.

In my opinion, the result today was more a product of lack of intensity and poor coaching. These players might have lost to the Czechs anyway, but they are certainly capable of a much better performance.

Yeah, and there is no excuse for not starting Boca. I agree that in that case he is definitely playing favorites.

Andy, as bad as the US played today, they still would have kicked Mexico's ass. We will ALWAYS kick Mexico's ass from now on, except maybe the odd game in Mexico City where it is impossible for normal people to breathe and Americans must be more concerned about leaving the pitch alive than actually playing a game.

I know your pissed, but the way we played today or only chance of beating anybody would of been playing the cheap suit folding Japanese. Also, didn't we go 1-1 during qualifications against Mexico with both winning at their respective homes.

Hell yeah, I'm still pissed. Better to take it out on a fan of the Mexican team who just came here to gloat than anyone else, in my opinion. Besides, Andy and I have a bit of a history on this subject.

And yes, we lost in Mexico City in qualifying, just like I said. But everywhere else, we own Mexico. That is a simple fact.

I flew 5000 miles for that? Still was amazing...until about 35 minutes in the game when Rosicky scored his first.

I'm not surprised one bit about the egg that got laid. Everyone from Marcelo "best in the group" Balboa to your average Texags poster completely overlooked a very solid Czech team.
