*** DISCALIMER: This practice is just for fun and debate. All the players of the MNT are fantastic athletes, and there is not any football, basketball or baseball player that could step on the pitch right now and not get their ***** handed to them. ***

OK, I subscribe to the theory that if soccer were as popular in the US as "the big 3" sports, that the MNT would be just as good as any other in the world. So, who do you think would be the perfect team, given this?

Here's mine (4-4-2):
F: Allen Iverson (very fast, very tough and very aggressive) and LeBron James (great in the air, amazing jumping ability and body control, tall but not lanky).
M: I like NFL RBs here with their explosiveness, so I will go with LaDanian Tomlinson and Michael Vick (basically a RB). I will also throw in Carl Crawford, as he obviously is very fast and has great hand-eye coordination which I think would translate well. I also want Jason Kidd in the center to run the team.
D: For my centerback I'll take Tony Gonzalez (strong, good jumping ability) and Troy Palomalu for his overall athleticism and defensive instincts. Donovan McNabb (great athlete and good downfield vision) at the right and Santana Moss at left back, playing defense, but available to make runs down the left side.
GK: Randy Moss. Can catch, jump, has great body control and as goalkeeper, he take take plays off just like he does in the NFL.

Again, this is just for fun. Thoughts?

**I also agree that these athletes might not be great soccer players and that the current MNT are great athletes**

That being said, I like your choices for forward, James also has great speed.

For the midfielders and defenders I like a few of your choices like Jason Kidd. I would pick almost all of mine for these two categories from NFL CBs and two-way players. I think NFL CBs and slash players like Deion, Terrance Newman, Troy Brown, Darrel Green(retired), The Barber twins, Steve Smith, and Sammy Davis(had to have an Ag) all MIGHT have made good soccer players had they taken up the sport.

The skill set for an NFL CB seems pretty close to that of a defender(except playing with the ball at your feet). Plus, I think these guys have the body type that would allow them to run all day like soccer players.
