Apparently Adam Steinburg will stay at Pepperdine after turning down ATM offer.

I guess Cory was on target on this one. Maybe Waves bumped him up some. Can't blame him. It is a long way from the front porch view of the Pacific Ocean to the Brazos Valley.

Don't ask for sources. I won't give any. Just what I heard.

No surprise there, why would he leave after just getting a National Championship and go to an opportunity to start over re-building a program to the next level.

I can't imagine this search is easy, being so close to the start of the season.

Good to see Bill Byrne swung for the fences with that attempt.

"Siegel was one of three finalists to interview at A&M, including Pepperdine head coach Adam Steinberg and Ohio State head coach Ty Tucker. Pepperdine is coming off a national championship, while the Buckeyes were the Big Ten Conference champions before advancing to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Championships."
FWIW, coming from a raider publication.

Hope Tucker is still a candidate.

No kidding. I believe he graduated from tOSU, so I find it hard to believe that he's a serious candidate for the job.

SA68ags, I have heard nothing about additional candidates. The first three guys look to be staying put. At least that is what I am hearing.

Ty Tucker is not likly to leave tOSU.He will probably get bumped up finantialy. Seigel was a long shot way before he was offered the job . He has been there for a long time. The article in the Lubbock paper says it all.

Look for a new group to surface soon. It will be difficult to assemble an elite group of candidates willing to leave at this late date. However, as I have said before, ATM paid Cass big bucks for a college tennis coach.

Even more critical for ATM is that they have no representative at the Junior nationals in Kalamisoo (sp) Michigan this week. Recuruiting is in full swing in college tennis right now with a signing date in November. Coaches from almost every school with a tennis program are there this week. Visits are being set up. Football weekends in Sept and Oct. are usually a big time for fall signees. Assistant coach Steve Moore resigned a few weeks ago and moved back to Corpus Christi. So no one is working right now.

I assume it is fast getting uncomfortable for Bill Byrne with the clock ticking.

However, a new coach might be named next week. Who knows? It will be interesting.

Even more interesting is that nothing seems to be happening at TCU with their coach search. I have heard nothing to indicate a new coach would be named soon.

There are 5 new players coming in to the team...recruiting a coach is far more important. No need for juniors right now...and its Kalamazoo

How long do you want to ignore this user?
More important. School starts in less than 4 weeks and the players don't know how and when and where to report. and of course TO WHO?

Jag thanks for the heads up on the spelling...

As for a coach. This is what happens when you shoot for the top and miss. Especially, when you have a very unusual sitiuation of a coach leaving mid summer. The players are all his guys and the recruits that are coming in are his recruits. ATM needs a coach and for the life of me I can't see who that might be right now. Coaches are in Michigan right now getting ready for the season. Head coaches will be reluctant to go unless you wind up settling for a guy with less experience than Cass.

IMO, you will not get someone with the success record of Cass at this point. I could be wrong but it has to be someone who will get a huge pay raise and not mind leaving his current post high and dry.

I agree, a current D1 coach is not goig to leave his/her program at this point in the season. The likely candidate would be an assistant coach that has been one for several years and couldn't afford to turn it down.

Or, perhaps a former player, who has played professionally, bee nin th ebusiness for a number of years. Like a Brian Joelsen for instance. He could probably get his daughter to transfer from UCLA and play on the women's team, except she turned A&M down becuase of the current coach.

Hopefully Bill Byrne has some candidates that have potential to grow into the job.

Or maybe Todd from Pebble Creek would be interested. He knows all of the men on the team, has coached many of them before. Maybe he could be an interim coach while the search continues. The players will be coming back to CS in a couple of weeks, guess they will have to train themselves.

I saw Todd Taylors wife tonight and should of ask about that. That could be a possibility however it is unlikly.

Sam Winterbotham might be a candidate but not really a great fit. He is avaliable however.

Look for a new group to surface this week. There is time before the school season. However, there is always work to be done with the team within the next two weeks. Keep an eye open/

This is a tough situation for Byrne. We've gotten decent points out of tennis for the Sears Trophy and if he hires right, we could even move up. Hire wrong, and we could drop pretty fast (very competitve sport) and there goes the points. We'll see what kind of rabbit Bill can pull out of the hat.

I think we'll be making up the points in other sports very soon (T&F, football (hopefully), baseball (hopefully), basketball, etc.) Byrne has made some great hires that I have faith will produce very soon.

I'm a bit surprised Cass left us in this situation. Obviously he's taking a job that he wants, but he may also be condemning a very competitive sport at A&M to mediocrity if we can't get a proven winner to take over.

For many reasons I am going to let this play out over the next few hours. What I think does not really matter anyway. I am going to support whoever the coach is. As in most things, time will tell.

Not exactly a ringing endorsement, I, like you will fully support Byrne's choice and defer to his usually wise judgement.

Raven, someone said earlier Steve M. was going back to CC, and then a reference to Moore in CC. I must be missing something.
