i haven't looked at the women, but unless i missed something, i think every member of the men's team that is competing has gone a best time at this meet (with three sessions to go!)

we might not have the talent as one of the other teams - but we're performing very well.

It was a great day for our women SWIMMERs. Alia wins the 100 breast. Sturdy in 100 fly. Wilk in 100 back.

But our lack of divers is KILLING us. We should be ahead by 100, not 28!!!!

The men are swimming well. I'm impressed with their times.

we have one...she has been 15th place in each event so far

Someone feel free to correct me, but our lack of divers at NC's will hurt the girls from competing for first, but they will have so many swimmers that they should be able to place very well, probably top 5.

I don't know about scoring at the NCAA meet. I know there is a limit on how many athletes can go. But I don't know if there is a limit on how many can score. It doesn't make sense to me to limit scoring since it is so hard to qualify for.

We need some big points today to make up for the platform diving!

The men might have dropped the hammer on mizzou last night, possibly putting the meet out of reach. they got the job done this morning and should have a hell of a 400FreeRelay tonight. The mile will help the Ags alot, as will diving, as usual. The Aggie backstrokers Holland and Bergstrom should be able to beat the Mizzou guys in the 200back, and in the 100Free we should take the top 4 spots in the B final. Jacobo should dominate the 200Breast, with Chambless and Galen putting in solid swims to beat the tigers. Duran will smoke in the 200Fly, hopefully finishing in the top 3, with Welch maybe sneaking in front of 1 or 2 mizzou guys.

The women swam amazing this morning, as usual. They will have to continue their domination of the horns tonight if they wanna win the title. Our diver is more of a platform diver, so there is a chance we could get a few more points from diving, but still not enough to counter the horns divers. Expect many more records to go down tonight. Atkinson had a GREAT prelim breast, and the 200backs should be super fast as well with Heiss and Wilkinson takin control, and Neal close behind. Solid swims for Hansen, Aljand, and Jasek in the 100Fr. The ladies are putting every ounce they have and are pouring their hearts into this meet, and if they continue swimming the way they have all weekend, hopefully they will pull it off, even without diving

And as for the Men's best times, nearly all swims have been at, or under season bests, and most under lifetime bests. All of the women who had NCAA auto cuts already are not fully rested or shaved. and yes their lack of diving will hurt them at NCs, but they should hopefully be able to finish top 5 this year, and continue improving on that. Coach Wright (diving) should have a few diver recruits coming in next year to help out.

The ag female diver beat one of the three horn divers this morning, so A&M will only have to two take a two-diver hit tonight...they should be behind by less than 20 points heading into swimming finals...this one is going down to the wire

wow thats great. i hadnt seen the diving results. if we are down by 20 then, knock on wood, game over for the horns. lets hope the ladies can keep on SAWIN' 'EM OFF!

Aggie women win the Big XII by one point. That's incredible considering our diving situation!

I was away from a computer for the last several hours. I was at the UT swim center watching the 4A high school finals.

Incredible to win the women's by 1 point....

And Duran beat Rick Berens, possibly the #1 high school recruit last year, in the 200 fly.

Great swims by the Ags. Damned proud of all of them!

here, here...absolutely magificent performance by the swimmers...their sheer will would not let them lose this meet...they deserve all the credit in the world!

Big Congrats! Gig'em

If you look back at the results, Ags swam damned well all around - women AND men. I'm impressed that the men got two wins - 200 fly and 200 breast. Our men were probably rested and Texas probably wasn't - but Duran's 200 fly was an A cut and very good. He's a freshman. Holmes should be able to show recruits that his athletes are improving and swimming well. We need more freshmen like Duran and Casey Strange. I hope he recruits well and begins a run like Bultman. I do not see A&M beating Texas in men's unless there is a coaching change at Texas. There is nothing on the horizon to change Texas' position as a top 5 team.

The women are superb. Great swims from the few seniors we have (Sturdy, especially). But the power of the team is sophomores and freshmen. Alia was awesome to win both breaststroke races. But Emily Neal's swims were awesome from a freshman. Already has an A cut in 200 back, and B cuts in 400 IM and 100 back. Other great swims - Melissa Hain (FR) 400 IM A cut, Sara Woods (FR) sprint freestyle.

Good freshman men's swims from two 4A kids: Tyler Welch, Lake Travis, and Sean Duckworth, New Braunfels. I saw both of these guys swim in high school and they are unheralded guys who will contribute over their careers.

One of my favorite parts of the meet was the KU women rooting for the Aggie women in the final relay, really getting behind them and then all cheering when A&M won...
We were sitting right behind the KU team and a few of them were flashing us the gig em right after the women won....

Thanks for the anecdote from the meet! It doesn't really surprise me considering that since the Nebraska team got in trouble and fell apart in the late 90's no other team has really challenged Texas for the Big XII Championship. So this has been a long time coming.

Plus, as fans of swimming, you would hate to see a team lose because of a total lack of diving help. Our girls deserved to win based on their efforts in the pool.
