Yep, No disgrace getting beat by OSU. We played great today, they were just a little better

One thing is for sure. It was a two team race today. The rest of the Big XII disappeared. And the North sucks bad at golf. I guess all of that snow kind of gets in the way.

this was A&M's year ... have we ever won the Big 12 in golf? beating tu is not much consolation since the team has beat tu in every tournament that they've played against each other.

No you haven't ever won a Men's golf Big 12. In fact your mens program hasn't won a Big 12 conference title since 2001!

Just made it in from my meetings.

I was getting updates from me secretary all day.

Well, I think it boils down to that OSU just played good golf this weekend. Yes, we messed up yesterday afternoon, but OSU just played better.

It is nice to see that Bronson finished well and didn't make me look like a fool, but he really needs to play better in the early rounds. We need him for 54 holes, not just the last 18.

We will find out about where we will be playing for regionals in about two weeks.

The girls should find out early next week where they will be playing. I am crossing my fingers for Baton Rouge!

Samsill98,

I think you need to calculate again. As of now, A&M has 7 points and t.u. has 8.5. If we win the softball game tomorrow, we will pull within one point. Texas is expected to win Mens track. A&M is expected to win Womens track. That would mean that the whole enchilada would be decided by who wins the baseball series.

If I am wrong in this analysis, please correct me.

If we tie, tu retains the trophy - right? If we win softball, split track and field, and win baseball, that would be a tie - correct?

Each baseball game is .5 pts so if track splits we would have to sweep the BB series.

The entire baseball series is worth 1 point - the team that wins the series gets the point. Since Texas currently has the trophy, they only need a tie to retain it, so they only need one more point.

Correct, tu retains the cup in a point tie - meaning unless we pull off the upset in Men's Track we will not get the cup.

A draw, however, would represent a major milestone given the way the series has gone in its first few years. When you consider that our "draw" would hypothetically include the following, I'd say we should be very proud:

- A football win in Austin
- Spliting men's the basketball games and going further in the tourney
- Winning the baseball series, with at least one win coming in Austin
- Split women's basketball matches, then winning the Big12 and going deeper in the tourney
- Though tu upset us in soccer, we finished top 5 in the country and repeated as Big12 champs
- Though we would split softball games, we are likely headed for a top 10 finish where they will not be ranked in the top 30

How about not only beating tu for the third time EVER in women's swimming but beating them again later in the year by a single point in the final race for our first ever Big 12 Championship in the sport? For anyone that wasn't in attendance, it was arguably the most monumental and stirring accomplishment of the athletic year...and yes I watched the tu football game and the KU/tu basketball games.

Texas does not lose in swimming. Ever. Year-in year-out for nearly 30 years, this is their athletic dept.'s best sport. We handed them their rear more than once this year. The girls should be commended for smashing the glass ceiling.

The above posts explain why Texas only needs 1 more point to retain the trophy.

A&M did do a great job of winning in S&D, but Texas didn't win the first 2 BIg 12 titles in W S&D. As for the men's 25 year+ streak, every streak comes to an end, just ask Baylor.

Point being they had won eight in a row; exceeded by only one other sport at the school: men's swimming. I could be wrong but I don't think they've won eight conference titles in a row in anything other than swimming any time recently.

Both men's and women's S&D have brought home more hardware than anything to date. Women's Tennis won 6 straight conf and tournament titles which is pretty amazing.

just fyi, it wasn't always the case. SMU won the Men's SWC swimming championship from 57-79 (23 titles). But we did take back control in 1980.
