"Three schools have contacted Vanderbilt seeking permission to talk to Commodores' women's golf Coach Martha Richards about their respective coaching vacancies.

Georgia, Texas and Texas A&M contacted Vanderbilt Vice Chancellor David Williams last week, seeking permission, following the NCAA Women’s Golf Tournament.

Richards, who declined to comment when reached today, has been one of Vanderbilt’s most successful coaches this decade. She was named the National Coach of the Year by Golfweek in 2004 and was the 2002 and 2003 Southeastern Conference Coach of the Year."

Sounds like she could be a good hire for the Lady Ags!

Georgia and Texas aren't two programs you want to be up against. UGA has a solid program and looking at her bio, she was an assistant coach at UT from 1998 to 2000. Byrne better have a backup plan.

$Bill always has a backup plan. I don't know who he's got in mind but I wonder if the Denver coach is on the list. Here's her bio:

According to her bio, she was an assistant at Texas for a couple of years, which fulfills Byrne's desire for local ties. However, I would also assume that gives the Horns an advantage if both schools offered.

Georgia hired Arkansas coach and UGA grad Kelley Hester.

Martha took the job at ut. Not surprising. She'll do a good job.
