man, i havent been on the tennis board in a while since its the "offseason" so i was amazed to see all the fire and sh*t talking going on about womens tennis...
here's my thoughts if anyone cares:
Coach K is a remarkable representative for A&M, his teams always handle themselves well and carry themselves with class which is comes from his attitude. He never breaks any ncaa violations, his teams always have a high GPA and graduate, and are great Aggies. His teams are always competitive and ranked in the top 25-40 which is respectable.
On the other hand is he the best on court coach or recruiter in the country, no. But to be honest in the womens game there is not a lot of tactical changes that can be made. Womens tennis is very predictable and 99 out 100 times the better player wins, look at the pro level. The perennial best teams Stanford, UCLA, USC, Georgia and Florida always bring in the best recruits, its not so much player development and on court coaching. Look 99% of girls all play the same game, consistent or aggresive baseliners, so its not all his fault the teams only reach the 2nd round.
I think Coach K is a great person and good coach. Any coach who can represent the univeristy in a class way and stay respectable on the national scale, continuously making the NCAAs is doing his job. Lets face it womens tennis is not football or basketball, so these other important traits of a program is what it should be judged on. Coach K has earned his tenure and can go out on his own terms. At that point, if we can hire the best coach and recruiter in the country and get someone who can get us a national title, thats great, but remeber there are only 3-5 of these coaches out there so its tough to do, so appreciate coaches that represent the Aggie family with class and repectability.
