Thanks. It was unexpected. Went from healthy and running around to feeling off on Friday, seemed fine yesterday, woke up this morning and he was pooping in the bed, then got him down on the floor and he wasn't really capable of standing up. He died while I was driving to the hospital. Was 12 years old.

I hate this for you. We had to put our baby down early May. He was fine then one day he was running around and hurt himself. One thing lead to the other and determined it was bone cancer. He was 12.5. I held him when he was 1 week old all the way up until he passed. I bring that up to say, I appreciate the contributions of the posters here.

ETA: not trying to be a wet blanket in such a good thread, so if requested, I will remove it.

Sorry for your loss. Not sure if it's worse for it to be a total blind side, or having to make the decision. I'd have a hard time deciding it was time even if it was inevitable.

My parents had a 14 year old border collie with hip dysplasia they had been nursing for the better part of a year. They put her down on Friday. I gave my boy a pat on the head, told him we lost another good one and he needed to live a lot longer the night before he died. Was sure he was gonna make it many more years. Would take him for walks around the neighborhood and the neighbors would laugh about his puppy like excitement as he ran out ahead of me even at 12 years old.

The Aussie is not happy

You know it was a real struggle to make the decision, but I know without any shadow of any doubt t I did the right thing at the right time. We had an in home service come (Aggie vet too), and it was the o my way to go. The day it came down to it, we took him on a golf cart ride, he ate cookies, pizza (2 slices in 4 bites). We were very strict on his diet, so he was in Heaven before puppy Heaven. He had a big send off. So while it hurt and I think about him every single day. But I know he had a tremendous life. You boys and girls love your pups, discipline them when they need it, and enjoy the true gift they are. Because they are a gift. We have some travel coming up over the next year, but next Junish we are getting 2 more pups. I will be sure and post pictures.
