I've dated plenty of independent women including multiple single moms and many of them don't "pay their way" entirely. They are either getting help from family or their ex-spouse (via child support or other means), whoever they're dating, and are certainly not reaching for their purse when the bill comes.
Shocking fact: men aren't here to subsidize the material wants and lifestyle choices of women.

The current culture appear to be to want to have cake and eat it also. It's going yo be an unsatisfying search for companionship if that remains the expected standard. I pity those who have been conditioned to expect and demand without providing and accommodating. Some people can do well alone, but most would do better as a reciprocal and complementary union.

Here's the truth about relationships: every one is different! Some women want X, some want Y. Same for the men. The trick is always finding a complementary set of 2 people who can offer each other what they are looking for in a relationship.
And as both men and women get older they have more lifestyle choices to make than ever before. And finding someone gets harder the more variables you add to that equation. On top of that the older someone gets, the more inflexible they become in the compromises they are willing to make.
So the longer you wait, the pickier you get, and the more unlikely it is that you will find someone that meets all of your criteria.

I've found dating to be easier now that we can leave the kids at home by themselves and don't have to find a babysitter.

Just wanted to add that the older you get, the smaller your pool of available singles that meet your criteria gets. Every year that pool just gets smaller and smaller. A person who is husband/wife material probably wont be on the market for very long because someone will snatch them up, or there is too much competition for them.

The stability, meaning, and purpose brought to my life by my wife and my children provides immeasurable value to me and has completely turned my life around and made me into a man I would have NEVER been able to become without them.
They have improved my life in every single way I can think of. Without my wife, I would not have my kids and the loving home that she helps me provide to them.
I am equally yoked and am blessed beyond measure that God saw fit to place a woman such as her into my life.
Could I have a good life without all of that? I don't know, maybe. But what I know for certain is that every year I am married to my wife I feel more fulfilled than I did the year before.
