Well, I'm a banker and have some knowledge of how it works. My comment about bags of cash wasn't really serious.

It's harder to launder money now than it used to be. Classic money laundering is placing illegally gained cash into the system (i.e. deposits into a bank through some type of legitimate business) and then taking cash out of the business in what would appear to be a legitimate transaction. Maybe dividends, maybe selling assets the business acquires, etc. Somehow channeling money back to the bad guys in what appears to be a legitimate transaction. The money gets "washed" in the system.

But, it's much harder to do these days. Most banks, and all banks of any size, have systems in place to catch suspicious transactions, especially large cash transactions. Gone are the Miami Vice days of guys walking into a bank with suitcases of cash and nobody blinking an eye. That's why you see large seizures of cash outgoing at the border crossings from time-to-time. The bad guys are having a harder time laundering cash these days. But, it's somehow getting done. The illegal drug trade is still a cash intensive business.
