Have you ever solved a Rubik's Cube?

I know it's an old video but it popped up in my timeline today. It boggles my mind that someone can do this. I've tried solving "just one" multiple times in my life and I've never come close. Anyone here accomplished it?

I have. I took it apart...put it back together....all the while sitting on the ****ter dropping a deuce.

No

But my son used to be able to do it under 2 minutes or something.

When I was a kid, I could solve the 3x3 in a few minutes. Now, I recall only some move sequences but I don't remember when to use which sequence, so now the 3x3 size takes me 15-30 mins.

I picked up the 4x4 recently and tinkered with it for about 30 mins then I lost interest.

Once you know the basic algorithm it's pretty easy to do in about 90 seconds. Combined algorithms and speed cubing hurts my brain

Yep. Back in mid 80s (high school) I'd solve it in under 2 minutes.

Don't ****ing remember it now though.

I still solve it on a regular basis using the technique I learned from a friend in 1981. I really don't understand how some of the moves work, so it feels like magic every time. I just know the moves he taught me, and I can do it in about 2 minutes with no problem. My friend learned from that little white paperback book that everyone had in the 80s.

My kids learned a new way to do it, and they can do it in 30 seconds or less every time. Freakin' YouTube.

I can accomplish something way more fun in under 2 minutes.

Yep a couple times just not fast. It's just a few patterns for each layer. You can figure out the first face and then one layer if you try but you'll probably never truly solve one without the "way" that fixes the last layer or two.

My roommate in Walton could easily do it in under a minute. He tried to explain the algorithm to me but I was a business major.

I had the book. Maybe 3 minutes, tops.

I learned how this summer using YouTube. The fastest I've been able to do it is around 2 minutes, but I average around 3 to 3 1/2 minutes. Took a week or two of practice to really get the process down.

i used to do the 3X3 in about 30 seconds. Now takes about 2 minutes.

Yes I had that too. Small booklet I got back in 1982 that showed the moves to systematically do it from one side of the cube to the other.

The name was "You can do the cube!" or something.

And I take it you sold the algorithm and made money?

I've never been able to do more than one side. I take that back - one time I solved one side, then as I was setting it down and congratulating myself, I happened to notice that the opposite somehow ended up solved.

"The simple solution to Rubik's Cube".

It was the hooked on phonics for nerds.

Solving a Rubik's cube is the only thing less productive than porn.
