Texas A&M takes forever to advise on admissions….

For prospective students that aren't "automatic" based on class rank.

My daughter is just outside top 10% with solid SAT scores, extracurricular activities etc.

She's applied to A&M, Tech, Baylor, Arkansas, Miss State, Oklahoma, U Dallas and several other smaller Catholic universities.

Every other college has advised on admission (accepted) and given various scholarships months ago.

But no response from a&M. Still "pending."

I understand that A&M may be more "competitive" but it's odd that they take so long to say yes or no. I suppose she's on the bubble and they wait to see the rate of kids that accept and enroll?

But it puts them at a pretty big disadvantage when she's getting scholarships and admission to honors college at, Tech or Arkansas and is starting the process to sign up for dorms and roommates.

If we find out she got into A&M months from now it's highly unlikely she'd be moved to go given how far ahead she is with the process with other comparable schools.

It just seems like there has got to be a better way to make quicker decisions.

Have you tried bribing, err donating?

I honestly doubt that works….

But seriously, what's the going rate?

24 years ago it was my dad talking to a guy on the admissions board that he did business with. Today it probably takes NIL money for the 10th WR.

The clear cut no-brainer admittances have heard. Those that haven't are on the bubble to at least some degree and will hear Jan-March. I wish they had more clear cut early admission dates vs rolling, but big picture, for kids that applied early but haven't heard, they are essentially the equivalent of kids at other schools where that first early admit feedback this fall would have been "deferred" to decisions early next year as well

The competitiveness on holistic at A&M is drastically different than the schools you listed. Been thru this process twice recently with both my kids (class of 25 that just graduated and soon to be class of 29). They were both holistics that thankfully had good enough scores to hear in October so they didn't have to go thru that painful waiting game. But having other options ready is the wise move.

Yes, blows. I'm out of state, CA, and my son is waiting, waiting, waiting. Meanwhile, schollys to other good schools, but wants to go to TAMU. Frustrating. He busted his butt to get everything in for early submission, now he's waiting. Sheesh

Can she play linebacker? That'll get her in overnight.
It only took me a year to figure out this place is nuts!

Well frankly, test scores like Larry's would call for a very generous contribution. For example, a score of 400 would require a donation of new football uniforms, 300, a new dormitory and in Larry's case, we would need an international airport.

You do realize that TAMU has one of the largest student populations in the world, right? Comparing the application timeline to the schools you listed isn't reasonable.

Are the deadlines for accepting scholarships at the other schools before April? You should hear something from A&M one way or the other by March.

Yes, A&M more students and more applications. They also have more people working in admissions office.

A&M lollygags.

Been there. It sucks. My son didn't fit inside the box - too much AP credit in HS to qualify for the Blinn program but was offered the A&M System school route.

That route isn't offered for Mays so he chose Tech instead. Well funded business school, and honestly they helped a great deal in fitting all his AP credit so he graduated a semester early.

Truth be told I know deep down he would prefer being an Aggie but not enough to select a major he didn't want. And he had a good experience at Tech.

Best of luck to your daughter. I hope you get some answers soon.

Yeah, that's what it's looking like. We visited Tech and she likes it. Honors college at tech. Has a lot of AP credits too….has zero interest in spending any time at some random A&M system school or being a CT.

Oh well!

I would imagine that they have to wait until they had all of the applications in on December 1st plus some documents are still accepted until the 15th before they start making decisions on most of the holistic applicants.

A&M is more competitive than the other schools you listed so it isn't surprising that she has heard from those already and offered scholarships. There are tons of A&M kids who are offered scholarships at other schools but go to A&M without any scholarships. There is more than enough demand to fill the freshman class so I don't think they are at a disadvantage. I have a current junior at A&M that received lots of money to go elsewhere but he wanted A&M.

I also have a senior in high school that is already accepted to A&M as an auto admit but she has only heard from a couple of the other schools she has applied to and doesn't expect to hear from the rest until January-March. For example she is an auto admit to t.u. and knows she is in but doesn't know if she gets into her major yet and she has huge academic stats, extracurriculars, and 4 year varsity athlete.

For competitive schools it is still early. For less competitive schools they send out early acceptances and scholarships and hope they get some loyalty from those that apply early.

My son graduated high school 3years ago. A&M was the last to answer him or any of his friends about admissions. Schools he applied to 2-3 weeks after submitting his A&M app replied faster. It is ridiculous, especially when you throw in how limited on campus student housing can be at every institution.

Basically, A&M, and you, are waiting for all the auto qualifiers to decide which school they will attend. In my son's day, auto qualifiers applied to numerous schools and waited to see which offered the most assistance.

My son applied for the Blinn team and was accepted. He didn't get accepted into A&M until late spring of his senior HS year. This, of course, made on campus housing impossible.

We made two non-negotiable rules for his college. First was staying in a dorm. Second was he could not live with a friend. Had to get an assigned roommate

He ended up living in Traditions his freshman year. Made lots of new friends there, which included the girl he married.

It all works out in the end.
The last thing I want to do is hurt you. But, it's still on the list.

She won't hear until Feb at the earliest. I think I heard in March or April. They also have many, many more applications to process than the other schools you mentioned and no incentive to update the efficiency of their process because they'll still end up with the largest (second largest?) freshmen class in the state.

The process is much faster when you accept almost everyone who applies and the only "decision" is how much of an out-of-state scholarship are you going to give them, which you use a standardized gpa/test score chart to determine. That is the case with basically all of the other schools he listed. Between my two kids friends/classmates, I honestly don't know of a single rejection from schools on that list. The main question is did you get anywhere from 0 to it being made basically on par with in-state tuition.

My kid got offered honors college and what would essentially be a full ride at LSU and didn't even finish all the steps on her application.

The volume and demand for A&M is just massively different.

My son that is a junior at A&M was accepted to LSU and it is crazy the amount of emails they still send. Every week there is an email saying he can still transfer there and they will accept all of his credits. They even send these emails the week before a semester starts and say he can start literally a few days later. My daughter who is a senior in high school didn't even apply there because she thought it was crazy and she didn't want weekly LSU emails during college
