Anyone remember Alvin "At Night" Van Black on Channel 13?
He'd wear a tuxedo and check out parties, restaurants, bars, swanky grand openings, etc.
Sadly he passed away years ago.
My Dad used to listen to his talk show on the radio back in the '70's.
I also grew up listening to Alvin in my Dad's car when I'd travel with him during summers… it was a very popular show at the time, but he was quite the ass to many of his callers. Years later, I started my career in TV news as an intern at KTRK in the Fall of 96 and Alvin was still there, doing his nightly "at night" segment for the 10 PM newscasts. He would trudge around the station, looking absolutely miserable… far cry from his on-air persona. I never really interacted with him since I was a lowly intern / later part-time employee, at the time, but his in-person demeanor versus his on-air demeanor were striking in their differences, at least outwardly. Alvin had a small wardrobe in the area near his desk… there were like four of the main anchors with desks in that space. I just remember how yellow the collars were on his tuxedo shirts.
