Should one be buried with his/her Aggie Ring?

I have a lot of Aggies in my family and Aggie in-laws. We have a situation where we've just agreed to disagree.
Should one be buried with their ring? My class of 1950 dad's ring went to my class of '18 son with the idea it would be passed down to Aggies in the next generation. My wife at the time's family insisted on burying my class of '72 brother-in-law with his ring. I had no say in that. I want my ring to go to one my (hopefully) class of '33, 35 or '36 grandchildren. Thoughts?
The person that is not willing to fight and die, if need be, for his country has no right to life.

Burying **** with people is dumb. This isn't ancient Egypt and they aren't using it in the afterlife.

Keep the ring as an heirloom or have the first Aggie grandkid use it to trade for a new ring with a remake fee. They won't use the same gold but it's the spirit of the meaning that counts.

I'm going to leave my Aggie ring "to the strongest".

Personally, I think it is dumb to bury someone with any valuables

No your Aggie ring should be passed down to your favorite grandchild.

Wtf, don't trade it in, keep it. Grandkid can get their own ring or wear grandpa's until they can get their own.

Honest answer: To each his own

Personally I think it's dumb, but if it's what they wish for, then so be it.

NO! That person is dead! What use will they have for their ring when it could continue to bring someone else joy?!

I would like to think whoever ends up with it will throw it off an air craft carrier like maverick did with Goose's dogtags

Agreed. And in my case, I've always felt like my ring is from the school for me, not for someone else. If my daughter chooses to go to A&M, then she will get her own. What's she going to do, wear mine?

Mine will go to the collection.

I have my CO 50 Dads ring as well as my CO 74 brothers ring. My two sons can decide what to do with those as well as my 77 ring.

I wish they could use the gold from yours and melt it down to make hers. That would be the coolest! But they won't.

No, I'd have a harder time shooting an Aggie zombie when the zombie apocalypse comes.

My father, my father-in-law nor my grandfather were buried with their Aggie rings.
So the greatest civilization is one where all citizens are equally armed and can only be persuaded, never forced. It removes force from the equation... and that's why carrying a gun is a civilized act.

There are few honored family possessions that would or could be held for generations; an Aggie ring or rings would be one.

Put it on their finger for the service. Then remove it before the undertaker's crew steals it. Pass it down. I have my grandfather's ring and wear it on occasion. There's a zip in my son's outfit who wears his great grandfather's ring. Old army flat crest. It's red ass.

This is the way. Did that for my dad and grandpas. I have both of them. They will be handed down.

My father was in the Corps, when he passed, we placed his ring in the Ring Case at the Corps of Cadets Center. The University and the Corps was a big part of his life. We did that and set up a scholarship fund in his name. I figured it was the best way to honor him. We always go by and "see Dad" when we're on campus.

Lots of good comments here, all better than being buried with it. I'd like to retain my grandfather's ('49) and my dad's ('77) one day as I'm the only son and grandson that went to A&M but I respect whatever wishes they may have.

Probably better to have that conversation before someone passes so they can actually have a chance to say what they'd like to see happen.

When my dad passed I ended up with his '50 ring. I had it resized and wear it instead of mine.

When I watch games at Kyle I wear both his and mine.

We've asked this question in my family too. We kept my dad's. His and mine will probably go to my Aggie daughter.

Unless the person makes it one of their final wishes.
Otherwise no.

I would prefer it be passed on to future generations. Or donated/sold.
I remember I paid $333 for mine in 1998. Never wore it. Don't know where it is but I know the general area.

No other Aggies in the family. I don't want there to be any more because I want them all to have their own identities and their own schools. Aim for a school better than parents.

I have my granddads class of '43 ring. He wasn't there to see me get it but I wore my brand new ring and his ring together that day, and I'll never forget it.

If my wife survives me, I'll leave my ring to her. She will take the crest and make it into a pendant. If I survive my wife, when I pass it will go to my oldest son (Class of '18).

It is ridiculous to bury a person with valuables! This ain't ancient Egypt and you ain't King Tut…
