I've never used it, and it seems inane, but I really don't understand the whole uproar over TikTok. Outside of feeling good about fighting the Commies, I certainly don't see the point in banning it.
We don't want the Chinese government having access to data like where we are, who we're connecting with, what we're doing, etc? This seems to be the gist of it. The thing is, I also don't want American companies having that type of information about me. As long as marketers from friendly countries continue to be allowed to use their apps to harvest this type of data, it's going to continue to wind up on the darknet and in the hands of anyone who wants it (including the PRC).
Seems to me that the answer here is to provide Americans with basic privacy protections across the Internet. Not to ban an app.
