"That $#@& costs too much to have issues."
I thought so too. Hopefully you'll have better luck. We purposely bought US made LaZ boy instead of cheap chinaman crap thinking it would last. Of the two sofas & two recliners only one has yet to need repair.
Should have taken it as a sign when one of the sofas was delivered with broken springs.
Since then one of the recliners has had a spring break in the back, which also poked through the fabric. Had to pay LaZ boy to fix that one (labor is only covered under warranty for a year). I've also replaced 2 springs in the seat of 1 recliner and 2 springs in the other.
TLDR: buy the tool above.
I did the first without knowing about the tool above in the first link. Impossible by hand. Ratchet strap couldnt pull it. I dont own a proper chain come-along which I'm sure could do the trick. Ended up wedging the chair against the frame of the front door & hooking a strap to the spring and my trailer hitch & inching my truck forward. Fortunately it pulled the spring without pulling our my front door frame.
Oh yeah recliner also has an annoying squeak I've failed at identifying and eliminating
