Bring it on!
But this is coming from someone that choose not to pay the bad-at-math tax.
I used to adhere to this. But then I was at a bar with a buddy and we were talking with the bartender about "what I would do with my Lotto winnings" and when I chimed in, my buddy said "no, you can't play this game, you don't buy tickets."
That made sense to me, and I liked playing the "what if" game, so now I buy tickets every now and then. I'll spend $2-$5 maybe once or twice a month. I have won $50 and $150 plus other smaller prizes, so my net cost per year is pretty low.
I don't buy Mega or Powerball, only Tx Lotto and Tx Two-Step, since they're still $1 apiece, and at least I'll live in the same state as the winner. Two-Step is usually $500k-$1M when I play it. Not generational wealth, but life enhancing, for sure!
The daydreaming is fun, but there is also valid logic to playing.
$5 a ticket, even if you're buying them once a week, is $260/year.
For many people, that cost is not going to materially change their life. Saving an extra $20/month isn't going to do much, even compounded over decades it's not enough to change your lifestyle.
But winning even the $1,000,000 smaller jackpot from a lottery is life changing.
It's a game with asymmetric outcomes.
Losing really isn't much of a loss. (with the exception of gambling addicts).
Winning is life altering.
