I recently acquired an old tripod. I am trying to make it a shooting tripod to help my kids. I am trying to mount a ball head, but I can't figure out how to get it attached to this tripod. How do I get this center pole to a 1/4 inch or 3/8 screw? I don't even know what this is called to look for the part. The center pole is about 17mm.

Boxer briefs. Provides support but with enough give for left hangers.

Tough to do that without a threaded connection. And looks like a custom fix.

What material is the center post? If it's steel, you could probably get a machine shop to fab you something and then ask them to tack weld it on there for you.

I'll be honest: buying a new tripod sounds easier.

ETA: okay I think if you follow some version of the above (custom) and then get something like below that has a female threaded connection you would be able to attach it to the modified center post.

I am quickly coming to the same conclusion. New tripod with a ball head on it is $25. New ball head by itself is $30. No telling what an adapter will run, if one exists. I will turn this tripod into $2 bills and buy a new one.
