I remember reading on here one time that the entire phrase came from the trenches in WW1. When they were getting rushed by the enemy they would yell "Hullabaloo!" to alert everyone else. And then the noise made by attaching bayonets to their rifles sounded like "Caneck".
Not sure if this is correct but can't think of a cooler explanation so it's as good as fact to me.
