I'm taking my daughters (11yo twins) to see their first A&M football game at Kyle Field next weekend against Samford. We are only able to stay Friday night so we're hitting Midnight Yell.

One of them has a fascination with bottle caps right now so I mentioned Bottle Cap Alley and that excited her.

I also wanted to show them what a college campus looks and feels like but I don't know what kind of access there is to things. For example, I used to be able to just walk into Langford and walk around and look at what the students were working on. The Creamery at Aggie Park might be cool to check out. Definitely will make a trip to MSC.

We will be short on time with the game but what are some good things for kids. Any pregame activities they would enjoy?

While I'm one of 14 Aggie graduates in my family, I haven't been on campus in like 7 or 8 years…

Haven't been since JFF's first game. Haven't missed a thing and saved a bunch. Only reason I'd go back is for Bonfire when my kids get older.

Have an awesome time. I loved taking my kids back and being "that dad" pointing out all the places I had class and attempting to retell the stories of the traditions correctly.

Zachry is usually open and worth a walk through. You can get a tour of the rec center. Eat a meal on campus: food isn't the best but they'll get a feel of being a student. Dorms aren't accessible for obvious reasons. Century tree, Academic building, MSC, elevator to the top of Rudder tower (restaurant up there is good). March in.

You can't know if you have missed anything if you haven't been back since early 2012.

What time are you getting into town on Friday?

What time are you leaving after the game?

That will help us a little with the planning.

OP said he's going for a football game. I haven't missed anything

You aren't good at the quote feature.

When driving, be sure to point at anything and say "That used to be a pasture."
Maybe the basketball game Friday night.
Gattiland. Antonio's. Zapato's. Fitzwillys. Shadow Canyon. Chicken Oil.
MSC Basement?

You know what, I'll just go with my twin nephews this weekend and then let you know on Monday.

You will definitely want to check out Aggie Park. Then head to the MSC and look around. Take them to the Wharehouse as well off campus and let them do some A&M clothes shopping. They'll love the size and selection and spending dad's money.

Good advice, but I laughed thinking of "Kids we need to check out Aggie Park and then hit the MSC. Stinkypinky said that's the best place to start a tour of Aggieland."

Good point.

Class is dismissed at 3:45 and we're heading straight there from San Antonio. It used to be right at a 3-hour drive but could be much worse at that time.

Planning to leave around 5 or 6 to head back home Saturday.

Find a good place for dinner. If you want casual, Hullabaloo Diner in Wellborn does pizza on Friday nights and also has some normal diner staples on Friday nights (check their social media accounts for the offerings that day, usually posted in the afternoon of that day). Their pizza is outstanding.

There is no shortage of burger or chicken places. Chicken Oil, a burger at the actual Chicken so you can see bottle cap alley afterwards.

Downtown Bryan has some good food and then y'all can walk around and see if anything else is going on.

A little nicer but not too fancy, Marfa Texas Kitchen on the south end but there's a lot of other stuff in the chains on the south end and along University.

Breakfast before the game, you can do hotel breakfast if you are staying in a hotel, or you can hit Fuego or Mojo Tortilla Co. or La Familia if you want tacos.

Snooze is a good brunch place. There are several others. Being an 11am game, I would hit one of the taco places I mentioned kinda early and then head to campus.

Aggie Park is nice and will be full of tailgaters as will the rest of campus.

Academic should be open. And Zachry. And of course MSC and Rudder and the Rec.

Bonfire Memorial also but the daughters might be too young to appreciate it.

We're taking our boys for their first game as well. Planning to go to MBB Friday and game Saturday. Boys really want to go to Yell - any suggestions on where best to park? It's been 20 years since I went last and no parking tag these days…

Im pretty sure he knows A&M hasn't won any championships in football still.

This might be the year he wants to go to a game though

I probably wouldn't try to schedule too much other than figuring out where to eat and maybe a museum tour or Friday night bb game.

Walking around campus, stopping to look at places you remember and check out the newer construction is going to take more time than it did when you were a student rushing to class and knowing where everything was by heart.

OP, avoid as much of the gameday traffic as you can and take the free shuttle service from downtown Bryan that drops you off at the MSC. Super easy

Assuming that you are staying at the Valley Hotel for its central location. It's perfect to walk to Three Sheets boutique that has lots of Christmas decorations available. If not snow globes then the ornaments would be perfect souvenirs. Then Homewood Toy and Hobby Shop to really spoil your kids. A real toy store, like pre-Toys-R-Us toy store. For dinner go to Dave's Pizza, maybe O'Carr's if it's early enough, or really just go to Whiskey Foxtrot. Get the fat Elvis burger and get your picture taken in front of Akeem's Employee of the Month plaque.
Have fun. It's a beautiful campus and town. BTHOsamford!

Does anyone know where Reveille will be this weekend? My girls have already said they would like to see Miss Rev and get a photo. What are my best chances to make this happen?

We had a great time!

Midnight Yell was an experience for them. I completely forgot about the canon so we all **** our pants the first time that went off.

We hit the high points around campus. They enjoyed the fun echo at the columns of the meteorology building. IYKYK.

Langford is doing well. Projects scattered everywhere. I liked to see it. There were so many 3D printers that they use to build the models now. That would have been nice. Basswood took a lot longer.

Gameday traffic was much better than I remember it being when I was in school. Very organized and well thought out.

We stayed at the Best Western at the south end of town. We weren't there much. Rooms were basic but clean and nice. Their breakfast was as advertised which was nice because I dropped a ton of money on merch/drinks/food.

Gameday atmosphere delivered. We pregamed at the Association for the freebie drinks and Slovacek sausage. Appreciate that our school does something like that.

Great weekend and the indoctrination has begun!
