Thanks for the extra $25 to donate platelets today. It was enough extra to get me to come in.

In college I'd sell at dci and then walk right next and give the money to charlie Mac. Still best cheeseburger I've ever had.

I had to have platelets after a surgery once so I'm thankful people donate those.

Is it really donating if you're getting paid?

Wait until you hear about sperm donations. They pay you to jack off.

It is a fine line when discussing blood/blood products for human transfusion.

There are specific guidelines provided by the fda as what constitutes monetary payment vs donation incentives.

Most blood centers that are collecting blood for direct transfusion need small incentives to motivate donors to cross their threshold. We provide reward points that can be redeemed for items like shirts, collectibles, mugs or gift cards. The redemption rate of points to dollars is part of an equation to ensure the monetary incentive doesn't overly outweigh the altruism of donors.
Part of the safety net to ensure a safe blood supply is to ensure that any incentives don't outweigh the necessity for honesty on the health questionnaire.

Plasma centers (CSL, Biopharm, etc) are compensated centers that provide monetary payment for the plasma they receive. Sometimes paying 800$1000 per month for qualified providers. These collections are then resold to pharmaceutical companies to produce IVIG or other human plasma derived drugs. Unfortunately, the "donation" messaging is overly marketed by these for profit companies and dilutes the donor base and altruistic donor pool available for non profit blood centers.

I sold my share of plasma back in the day when I was running low on $$$. Helped me pay a few bills and I got free juice and cookies.

Nothing wrong with it. I did the same, just a different avenue thsn blood donation.

The part that is frustrating is thUS provides over 70% of the plasma used for IVIG… a lot of countries (EU) don't allow for compensated plasma collection… but they do allow the use of the final product. This puts America in a bind due to to more young and healthy citizens going the compensation plasma model to the neglect of the blood transfusion needs for direct patient care.

So in my case, it's a time thing. From walking in to walking out, it was three hours of my time.

They did have Nutter Butter Minis though.

If the stab is inaccurate, is the procedure considered to be in vain or not in vein?

If you were paid $25, was your blood really a donation?
