Paint Rock, about an hour south of Abilene. Wife has a ranch out there.

Killed my first deer at a lease outside of Paint Rock! Would go to Lowake at least once per trip! Cool area and good arrowhead hunting.

Walnut Springs. My Dad had a friend with a ranch there. We would hunt and fish there when I was a kid.

High Island. It's basically a hill on the way to Crystal Beach.

Ravenna, TX. Northwest of Bonham. My grandparents grew up there in the early 1900s. Went there a lot as a kid. Not much there. Played in pastures and creeks. Climbed around on old tractors and old barns. Great memories.

I hunt there every year. Hope to retire there.

What a shame the restaurant there has gone so far down hill in the last ten years.

Has it? I go there once a year and haven't noticed anything. Pretty dang good CFS.

Maybe it has gotten better? To be fair we haven't been in a couple years because the service/food had declined so much. Maybe we need to give it another chance?

Anybody ever heard of Dallas in north Texas? Just east of Fort Worth. Probably only a couple people live there. Doubt it. Nothing to do there.

Texhoma, technically half of it is in Oklahoma. The town in the panhandle, not on the Red River.

Spent several weeks there for three summers cutting wheat.

I went down the Texhoma rabbit hole.

Survey moved border 456 feet south in the 30s and split the town.

Grades K thru 4 go to school in the Texas Texhoma school district - grades 4 thru 12 in the Oklahoma Texhoma school district. Students get in state tuition in Texas or Oklahoma, regardless of what side they actually live on.

Grew up in Acton, TX although that area is now named DeCordova.

Town so small it had a town triangle, not town square. In the triangle sat an Exxon named "The Dam" Bait and Grocery.

Smallest state park in TX is the Elizabeth Crockett grave site in the Acton Cemetery.

Really just part of Granbury

DeCordova was incorporated so a certain company could avoid being annexed by Granbury.

Yeah, I did. Spent a summer in each working at a grain elevator testing corn for alfotixin and running illegal as hell on The back roads in a '55 bobtail grain truck with no commercial license and always overloaded.

Almost every weekend of my childhood between ages 8-16 was spent in Ledbetter, TX, east of Giddings, down Turkey Creek Road. Dad and I would get a burger from the 4G County Store off 290 in Carmine and sometimes an RC with a sleeve of unsalted peanuts dumped in.

San Isidro - between McCook (another hole in the wall) and Rio Grande City. Hunted around there quite a bit.

And for S and Gs - drank a few beers in Valentine.

McCook is my heritage home, father born there and most family buried there.

We don't think of it as a hole in the wall. I received my A&M acceptance letter when residing in McCook.

Still return there to hunt with cousins.

My dad lived in Granbury later in life and sometimes joked about opening a weekend auction in Acton. He said he was going to call it the Acton Action Auction.

Family has property in Jermyn in Jack County that my grandparents bought in the '60s. Jermyn is tiny but does have a Post Office.

Population was over 1,000 in the late '60s and there was talk that the abandoned GT&W railroad line (originally founded by J. J. Jermyn) might be put back into service by a new RR company. That never happened and the population fell to under 100, where it remains.

The electrical plant on the opposite side of the lake. Interestingly enough, it is part of the ETJ even though there is no land adjacent to it from Decordova. They did it to prevent the city of Granbury from annexing.

Yea I think it closed around 2000. After that it was either eat something in Midland or wait until you get to the lease (or a fried pie in sterling City)

Santo, Strawn, Gordon, Mingus, Thurber.
When my native Eastland County was dry, my dad would drive to Mingus and to the small house of an elderly Mexican couple who would sell beer (Falstaff) to thirsty folks). We had to walk back to their chicken coop where the man would extract a six pack from the straw.
