Howdy Ags,

The CFP news brought plenty of excitement, and a sudden reminder that December 20th is basically tomorrow. Which also means Christmas is closer than it should be. Black Friday is over (Allegedly, I thought it lasted three weeks now), so any last-minute gift ideas might require some scrambling.

Let's put it out there: What's the *one* hunting item that actually made a difference for you this year, or the one you're hoping magically shows up under the tree?

Back in the day, guys went out with a rifle, a knife, and boots held together by hope (my battered Aggie syndrome sympathizes). If something fogged up or broke, you shrugged and kept going. Now we've got range finders, technical layers, and packs with enough pockets to lose things permanently. We might be softer than our dads were, but we're definitely warmer, drier, and a lot less grumpy in the blind.

Maybe for you it's the bino harness that doesn't sound like you're opening a bag of chips. Maybe it's boots that don't turn your toes into ice cubes. Or maybe it's that rifle you've been *subtly* mentioning to your wife since September, just planting seeds, nothing suspicious.

Whether you're crawling through South Texas brush or planning that dream South African safari, we all have that one piece of gear we'd hate to hunt without, or that one thing we're still hoping Santa decides we "deserve."

So: What's yours? What piece of gear changed the game for you, or what's on your wish list this Christmas?

We're Hook & Bullet Adventures, TexAgs' South Africa Hunting sponsor. Ammo storage for bow hunting makes me quiver.
