My wife has cats, house stinks. What do I do?

I've got like $4k worth of air filters going in here, several makes and models. All with charcoal inserts.

You have to clean pretty obsessively. It's your only hope.

Change litter box weekly. Scoop out poop and flush daily. Weekly cleaning of litter box with Clorox wipes and gloves. It ain't that dang hard.

Nope. Wipe down with Clorox wipes does the trick.

You realize cats are some of the cleanest creatures on Earth, right? Know why they're always cleaning themselves? They hunt alone and can't afford to have an odor. The litter box is out of their control.

Dogs hunt in packs and flush out their prey. Their stink doesn't matter, evolutionarily-speaking.

Divorce?
Indoor cat becomes outdoor cat?

Are the cats urinating on carpet, furniture, bed, drapes, any fabric? If so, good luck. You'll clean it to only to have them do it again.

Nope. Wood floors and ceiling fans plus decently maintained litter box are your friends. Put all used litter into a trash bag and put it out with the weekly garbage. Stir the litter so the west litter can dry out during the week. Both the litter box and cat feeding areas are on plastic mats.

The one that I linked will treat up to 6000 square feet, so it's pretty heavy duty. Once you use it and air out the house, the ozone smell goes away pretty quickly.

Be sure to remove anything living in your house, including plants.

You're welcome to borrow mine if you want...I live in Huntsville

100%. If you've ever shopped for a home you know this to be true. You take 10k off your sale price the day a cat walks through the door.

If you use an ozone generator, COMPLETELY vent your house before anything living is taken inside. If you can smell it, then you need to keep venting.

My college job was inspecting fire extinguishers and it took me through literally thousands of individual apartment units throughout B/CS. Lots of stinky ones out there. Everything from people who didn't do their dishes regularly or carry out trash often enough to folks who smoked or college kids with a collection of empty beer cans. The rare occasion where I actually gagged was usually a single woman with multiple cats in the same apartment. It is shocking how nose blind people can get to that smell. Had a few that would make my eyes water and the poor gal living there was blissfully unaware.

Nose blind is right. I only notice when I've been out of the house for awhile.

Treat the fur with catatonic.

It's a two step process.

1. Let the cats outside.

2. Close the door.

Then do a deep clean and your house should be good to go.

You should wear this:

Taught our cat to use the toilet. That helped with the litter box issue. Now we just have to vacuum and change the air filters regularly.

If cats or dogs stay inside, the house will have an odor, perhaps quite strong, perhaps only faint. The people living there may not smell it (unless it really reeks), but many visitors will.

We keep our litter boxes in the laundry room. Put one of those mini hobbit door things in so the cats can go in & out as they please. People come over & don't even realize we have cats until they see one. Bonus: it keeps the dogs from eating the cat *****

"Kitty Krunchies"

I was blessed with a cat that would jump up and down by the back door with her legs crossed to go outside. She didn't much care for the litter box, but would use it when she was "shut in" for a few days. People couldn't tell we had a cat.
