I listen to trance and progressive and things have been going pretty well since the David Guetta inspired crap that everyone was doing from around 2012-2018. A lot of the bigger shows like A State of Trance and Global DJ Broadcast became pretty much unlistenable. It's recovered since then and newer sets are good again.

Slight tangent...but I don't think most people realize the breadth of EDM styles that are out there nowadays. I pretty much only listen to EDM now, but spread it out over several sub-genres - House, DNB, dub, techno, trance, etc.

I know a lot of people like to hate on EDM, and that's fine (yes it still takes skill to create...just different skills). But to me it has so much more...emotion...than what is being put out by pop/rock/country nowadays (what I used to listen to). That emotion though doesn't usually just come through the lyrics like you would expect from other genres - you have to let the music in and FEEL it.

I'll admit though that if you have only listened to it at home or in your car you probably won't get it (especially if you have a crap stereo). But when you listen and dance to it live....it goes to this whole other level (yes, even without drugs lol).

Most of what I listen to doesn't even have lyrics - the music by itself just takes you somewhere.

I also listen to Flux FM out of Berlin and Radio Goethe but that's branching into other genres.

I can totally listen to music with little to no lyrics. Orion is way high on my list of favorite metallica songs.. maybe top 5.

The song linked below came out in late 2024.. 20+ minutes with about only 150 words and long passages with none.
It's all about music, emotion/feeling, movement and dynamics and headbanging when necesssary, all while mashing multiple genres together.

I feel like I can only find this in metal though. I've said before, as soon as a band displays a few seconds/minutes of 'metal' in a song, then they pretty much get lumped into that broad category for life. Look at sleep token.

This song has a 2.5 minute synth passage and a 3.5 minute passage that pink floyd wish they wrote.. but let's go ahead and label the whole thing metal

That is most definitely an inundation of heavy metal rock with a slight blend of politeness. 16:00 minute mark was my rip chord. I'll go listen to Metallica - To Live is To Die, thank you very much

Ahh you just missed the middle eastern bongo breakdown around 17 minutes lol.

I get it, it's not for everyone, not with vocals like that. They do have clean vocals as well. They also have a full instrumental album of synths.
Did you enjoy the Pink Floyd-ish bit starting at two minutes?

I used to be ALL rock and some pop, and HATED country. AS I've gotten older, my horizons have broadened. I still don't much like what I'd call traditional country (Luke Combs, Keith Urban, Thomas Rhett, etc.), but whatever William Clark Green, REK, Pat Green, and guys like that are called, I kinda like that. And I heard some Turnpike Troubadors on Landman the other day and liked it, too. I guess it's the storytelling element of it, maybe?

Goodbye MooreTrucker. Thank you for posting on my thread.
Rest in Peace.

Also, most 90's music sucked. Sorry you had to experience that.

Also, rap is not music.

Well I grew up in the 80s and my dad used to play 70s music when I was very young and even 60s Beatles. I thought the 90s were pretty good and many people have the same opinion. I just cannot relate to 2025 music. Ugh. My wife says I might change my mind if I listened to it more.

(i hate rap)

No worries. The 90s provided really good music. Hes just trying to be "that guy"

Saw them at Bonnaroo last year.

Lots of good music now.

Dawes, Sam Barber, Flatland Calvary, Michael Marcagi, Flipturn, Mt Joy, Lake Street Drive, Goldford…. Bands I have seen live and are putting out solid stuff.

So, we all know George Strait is the King of Country, he's The GOAT.

In the 1980s he had 18 songs hit #1
In the 1990s he had 17 songs hit #1
Then their was the whole Garth Brooks thing of the 1990s

Thats just one genre
