Hump day it is. Preparing for the winter storm. Probably go to H-E-B at lunch get some shopping done and fill up on gas.

Slept good for about 4 hours and then kept waking up every 45 minutes.

41 degrees in the Fort with some light rain.

Forecasting 5 plus inches if snow and lows in the single digits.

Worked at home last night after my wife went to bed. One part of this presentation is always tedious to prepare and I needed no interruptions so not at work and not while anybody else is awake! Although the puppies did talk to me a lot

Ever been asked to name five uses for a stapler that didn't include stapling paper, while at a technical job interview? I have.

Ever been asked what RAM and a hard drive are at a technical job interview? I have.

Ever been told you couldn't discuss family at an interview and then literally shouted down when you tried to explain that working in an office was an attractive prospect because you were a single dad who didn't spend a lot of time with other adults on a daily basis. I didn't consider this discussing my family. FTR, this last one happened interviewing with the City of Columbia, not Mizzou.

I'd more or less accepted that I was stuck in my current job until Benny finishes high school and I can leave Columbia (May 2027). I would like to take Benny on a nice vacation before he graduates though, and this will require a higher-paying job. That's why I'm giving the local scene another shot.

So the Show Me State is really "Show me why everyone working in this place is a jackass"?

I was once in the middle of a long spiel about "give an example of a project you coordinated that..." and one of the interviewers answered his cell phone and started talking (softly). I just started talking louder. I feel like I've seen it all.

Today is only a Zoom interview though. These have always been friendly enough.

The last time I was on the market at A&M, I interviewed for three jobs, got two offers, and an in-person apology at Olsen Field from the hiring manager of the third job (also a baseball season ticket holder). I was 30 then. I'm 54 now.

I don't know any less than I used to, but I'm convinced that much (most?) of my problem is that I'm too old and not an alumni of the local university. My Aggie ring doesn't mean much of anything in Mid-Missouri.

I'm taking the above advice and am going to try to keep the interview focused on what I have to offer and not what I'm missing. I have four reasons that they should hire me on which I plan to elaborate.

Gus came to visit me last night when it was freezing outside. I went to double check that the front door was locked and he was out there just sitting, guarding the house! I went outside and saw another local kitty that I've been calling Curtis. I met Curtis after going for a walk one evening this fall and he was so friendly, he started following me home. I had treats at home so I was okay with this. But we had to pass by Gus's house and he just happened to be stepping onto the sidewalk. Gus started yowling and did the bat! bat! things that cats do with their paws to Curtis's head and Curtis ran away I was so mad at Gus for that and I hadn't seen Curtis since! But last night, there he was across the street. And as soon as Gus saw that I saw Curtis, he took off after him to chase him away. So rude! But anyway, here's a photo from last night after he returned to the porch. This is where he sits sometimes, surveying the street.

Don't get caught up in cat politics. You'll never solve anything. Don't even get started with them and string.

The interview was going well. About half way through it my camera died. Everyone could still hear me, but there was no video. It's likely because I was the only one on the call running Linux natively. I have a Windows laptop that I'm going to use in the future. The interview continued without video from me.

I felt like I connected well with three of the four interviewers. The fourth interviewer has worked one month for Mizzou and was young enough to be my son. He said next to nothing. They're hoping to do a round of in-person interviews (around Valentine's Day), so I'm not expecting to hear anything any time soon.

The youngster said nothing because he's used to interacting with other gamers on a keyboard and mouse and not actually talking to people.

Sorry about your camera dying. Glad to know it seemed to go well. Fingers crossed for in-person!
