You thought the Dixie chicken was the only place in the world people carved into wooden table tops?

I've heard there are actually places where you can find gum on the underside of tables.

You know, that's something I've never actually thought about.

But I'm not sure I've seen that practice anywhere else, outside of maybe some other burger joints in BCS.

.

It is definitely a Land Grant School. Originally it was the Michigan Agricultural College. I think at one point they also went by Aggies.

At Michigan State they named a dorm after this horticulturalist. At A&M we named a football stadium after our horticulturalist.

Michigan State also has a Justin Morrill College named after one of the founders of the Land Grant University System!

There's a Table Top Lake in Missouri. Got to be a connection!

David Allen Coe was born September 6, 1939 in Akron, Ohio, but that seems irrelevant.

I've carved **** into tables in like ten different states and five countries easily. I was never the "first" to do it for any of those tables. Not by a long shot.

Well, go carve your initials into a table in the MSC and let us know how endeared that makes you with the other Aggies.

Their meat market pales compared to Rosenthal, but the creamery kicks the crap out of A&M. Even when it's 30 degrees out, the line for ice cream from the Dairy Store is really long.

I grabbed this off the internet because we didn't photograph everything we saw back when I was stationed in Heidelberg. This is Gastatte zum Roten Ochsen in old town Heidelberg GE. University of Heidelberg students having been carving on these tables for hundreds of years.

We don't have a creamery. We have a place called a creamery that is really just a reseller for Blue Bell ice cream.

I am. Forty years ago when I started at A&M I didn't think I would become one of those angry old Aggies yelling at clouds, yet here I am.

My daughter is looking at enrolling at MSU because they have a program that A&M does not have, so I have been learning more about them and spent the weekend up there.

Take away the Corps tradition from A&M, add a little northern abolitionist populism, and suddenly these two colleges have similar histories. They have also had their debates about what an Everyman Land Grant School is supposed to be teaching, with MSU having a more liberal skew to it while A&M has stuck to the more technical approach. Yet, they have still managed to keep their dairy and their creamery, while we shut ours down 30+ years ago. They even have their version of Earl Rudder who effected a lot of change that caused their enrollment to explode.

Good part of that is I don't think A&M has dairy science program I think it was rolled into animal
Science. Also I don't think they even have milking heard anywhere near campus. I think that was all ceded to Tech and Tarleton state

Saw them at Shadow for $8 in the 90's just when they were breaking out, felt like a publicity stunt for the Chicken at the time.
