His time off definitely did him good. The quality of his shows had been dropping for a while, but saw him last summer at White Oak and it was one of the best shows of his I've seen.

Yah, but the man is 70. Jerry Jeff sat the last couple of concerts I saw him play. We get old...

Texas Country and Nashville Country are two distinct genres. Nashville has been awful for a very long time. Texas still puts out good stuff. And I would consider George Strait's early stuff Texas Country. He is the king. Latter not so much. Same with Clint Black.

Some REK songs that are, in my opinion, amazing.

- This is considered the greatest Texas Country song by many....Myself included:

- This is one of my all time favorites. Just the way he tells the story:

- Also this one:

Only saw REK once and it was at Rudder circa 2004-05. Cowboy Mouth was the opener.

FIFY

I'll overlook your youth if you will consider the following:

Many of George Strait's early "hits" were nothing more than covers of Bob Wills music that had been staples of country & Western music for decades starting in the 1930s. Bob Wills created the Country and Western sound which is what "country" music was for over 40 years.

In case you've never heard:

And arguably, this is the best song Bob Wills ever did:

If you want to hear where "Texas" country came from, go listen to some Bob Wills. It's not the flashy, in your face guitar music that is popular today. More like a cross of folk and red dirt. Real music for people who were connected to the land they lived on.
