Today I learned North Texas has a ****ty law school. But not as ****ty as Texas Southern. How do you get a job if you graduate from Texas Southern Law?

One could be anything. They could even be associate justice of the Supreme Court of Mississippi.

Truth be told, in most scenarios its about who you know and how likeable you are. Not where your diploma ranks. Its all a texags fantasy. Unless you went to Yale

Isn't our law school NEW? Like maybe 15 years old or something....

No 22 is amazing when we are fighting against Stanford, Harvard, Princeton and the other fancy names.

Sort of. We bought Texas Wesleyan School of Law.

US News apparently made some significant changes to their ranking methodology that may explain some of the shakeup.

A law degree from Texas A&M is MUCH more valuable than a law degree from Princeton.

Yes, likely true. But, I've seen docs with a degree from Wayne State be more accomplished than a Johns Hopkins grad and engineering PhDs from Illinois-Chicago outperform an MIT grad in their career. We get caught up in rankings and forget so much more is the actual person!

And yes, overall a MIT grad statistically will do better than the Illinois-Chicago.

But as a three degree holder from A&M, I'm just perfect!! Lololol

There was a change to methodology and many of the traditional top programs no longer participate in the US News rankings, including Yale, Harvard, Stanford, Columbia, Michigan, Duke, etc….

Princeton is a great school. Very nice seminar rooms. The dining clubs are a bit much.

I've worked with countless Ivy grads. Sadly, if someone said which ones do you feel are the best and down to earth I'd choose Princeton. Cornell is in there but it a baby/hybrid Ivy/land grant so kind of an outlier.

HS buddy went to Dartmouth. Seemed like a cool place. Pretty un-ivy in the early 90s.

Can you explain that? All the schools you listed are ranked in the top ten in U.S. News & World Report law school rankings.

Yale, and likely those other schools, stopped providing certain data to US News, but that doesn't mean US News can't rate them.

Straightforward for A&M law. Wesleyan was a bit of a ****box law school. A&M bought it and the USNWR analytics started plugging in data from A&M instead of Texas Wesleyan. That made the school jump up the rankings pretty fast.

ETA: Penn State bought a comparable law school about a decade ago. It got the same ranking bounce and then settled back down to reality. A&M won't fall as hard because of the resources but the same thing will eventually happen.
THE_CHOSEN_ONE
How long do you want to ignore this user?
The most heavily weighted parts of the ranking are based on placement and bar passage rates, so A&M must have made some huge strides in these areas since taking over the school. We actually have a slightly higher bar passage rate than Texas now. So as long as graduates keep passing the bar and getting jobs we shouldn't drop in the rankings.
