Yesterday's phone interview wasn't great. It was scheduled for 30 minutes and only went 17. They asked about Active Directory experience. I supported Windows Server 2000 to Windows Server 2012. Once they heard that, they started asking questions and specifying Windows Server 2022, so I had to answer "No" a lot. It's been my experience that there usually aren't huge changes from version to version of Win Server. I suspect my experience is still relevant, but I felt like I was being weeded out. They didn't want to hear about my Samba server/Windows client setup. It uses all of the newest Windows administration utilities.
The three interviewers just weren't terribly pleasant, and one of them jumped on another of them when he didn't unmute himself. I didn't get the idea that any of them really liked their jobs, each other, me, or that they wanted to be on the phone call. My cat Callie jumped up on camera during the call. She got nothing; not a word. Just not a nice group.
Frustrating thing is, I used to work at IBM with the guy who left Boone County and created this opening. I'm far from perfect, but I'm lots better at this than he is (and he told me that he left because of the bad office environment).
They told me that if I haven't heard anything in a couple of weeks that I should email them and ask where I stand. I thought that was an odd thing to tell a candidate... comes across as terribly lazy.
