Adding work colleges to Linkedin lists - dying?

I remember getting on Linkedin sometime in 2007 if I am not mistaken. I added my grad school classmates, work colleagues. Every time I joined a new company, I would be inundated with people finding me on Linkedin and adding me. I would do the same as well.

I notice a change in recent years. People have tired of all of this "adding". The last 2 companies I joined, I have not received any connection requests on Linkedin at all. I got along with most of them. One chap added me many months after I left.

Just joined a new company this year, the people are amazing - no connection requests. I might send them out but nothing from their side.
If this is a trend that is widespread, people are tiring of Linkedin and building their networks online. Do you also see something like this?

There was a time when the trend was to add work colleagues to Facebook. That trend died about 13 years ago, I I added them in 2011-12, but not since.

I'm sorry you're having trouble making friends. Starting a new job can be hard.

Thanks. Now everyone will get 5 billion email AIDS from LinkedIn just for looking at the word LinkedIn.

I hate that site with a passion. It is the most worthless site ever developed because it is totally useless and everyone who uses it is a total ****** trying to one up someone else to show everyone how great they are at their crappy, stupid worthless meaningless job and how they have a new meaningless title. It is basically taking every ******* ****** who posts every stupid meaningless little thing on Facebook, but for work.

LinkedIn is basically the woman at work who nobody likes, is annoying as hell, never does her job, or does it completely wrong, screwing everyone else over, never gets fired but is always "reassigned", is single, fat, has no life, but constantly talks about the crap she does that nobody gaf about, but if you tell her to shut the hell up, you get in trouble and are seen as the *******.

I got my current job through LinkedIn, and I use it to keep up with what some of my former colleagues are doing, but most of it is mindless AI-drafted "influencer" posts.

And some people share waaaaaaaay too much of their personal lives on a site ostensibly for business networking. Talking extensively about your struggles with mental illness or how unjust your most recent firing was is not a great look for prospective employers.

Never been on it. I'm about 4 years away from retiring and I never will.

I started work in 1984. I have worked for two companies, one from 1984-2002 and my present employer since then. So I have not experienced this phenomenon.

LinkedIn influencers are posting so much content it makes me wonder what they really do at their supposed actual job.

This board has a lot of olds who never got on Linkedin. I am Gen X so I got on it after some 10 years of my career. It is the premier site to find jobs. Not every one can "tap into their network" for various reasons.

Lots of AI slop too. You can tell from the style.

I follow a woman who used to post interesting work related stuff. Then her husband died and she started asking people for money to pay her debts. Every post is about needing money. So her follower count reduced and now she's taunting people for unfollowing her.

Our marketing team: Please like and share. It's free marketing.

Everybody else's marketing team: Please like and share. It's free marketing

So basically, my feed has become people reposting crap from their companies and who won awards that year plus influencers to pedal their BS.

I've been the top performer in my company for four years now and don't like or repost much of anything. I get as much business from LinkedIn as I do TexAgs which is to say none

Most people active on linkedin are looking for a new job so not much value adding people who work for the company you currently work for

You are right, my friend's company does the same. They have a rule that each employee has to like/share one link every week. Else they hear from their boss. So they go to a link and click each week.

As an engineering recruiter, I use LinkedIn extensively just to find people to reach out to. It's great for that.

As far as the main site, it is absolute trash. And yes, I judge people on what they post.

What about people who never post? For example I never post anything as it could be misconstrued in a professional setting. I never discuss politics at work. For example, at my work place there's a high up woman who is an activist since the late 80s. She was seen protesting ICE recently on news channels. But she's very nice to me and she does not know my political leanings and I won't discuss that either.

This is perfect.

It can be handy for making connections and finding work or hires. But 90% of the posts are total BS just like you describe.

Yeah, I rarely check my LinkedIn feed and don't recall the last time I have posted something other than a job change. I needed to update my title a couple of months ago and LinkedIn autoposted "TH has been promoted to....."

Yeah it wasn't a promotion, just a title change to more clearly delineate my position and I got a ton of people congratulating me on my promotion, my counterpart in our north region is going through the same headache.

I use it primarily to figure out how old people are. Have never posted and turned off notifications so that nobody gets any role updates, work anniversary bs, etc from me. I'm just present and only accept connects from people i know.

LinkedIn is (was) a great warm and cold lead tool for networking, but they have gotten far too greedy with the monetization schemes.

They allow just 3 personalized connection requests a month now, unless you pay for premium. That's bull*****

I also saw recently I couldn't message someone without premium. I either had to be connected or have premium. That may be user preference, but it wasn't always that way with being able to send messages.

The people using the platform primarily as a sales lead tool are to blame
