I had not thought of this place in 30 years, and for some reason I decided to Google it today.

https://www.luthersbbq.com/about

I don't remember much about it other than the ribs having some sort of sugar/cinnamon rub on them

BBQ stuffed loaded baked potato 3 rows off the visitor dugout in the Astrodome.

Strong 90's memories. Ruined many shirts eating this combo at games over the years.

I always wondered if they were affiliated with the Colter's BBQ stores in DFW since they had essentially the same building. I think there is still one off of Little Road in SW Arlington

In the Woodlands/Oak Ridge area, there was a Luther's that is now a Pappas BBQ. Anyone remember the Feed Store restaurant? There was one off of 45 near Rayford/Sawdust years ago.

The Feed Store was my family's go-to until it closed and became Thomas BBQ. After that we were a Luther's family.

It was likely earlier than that if this is true.

The Colter's location in Arlington has always been named that as far as I recall. I remember eating there as a kid in the early 80's. It was basically the closest BBQ to our house. The first time I saw Luther's was when we were travelling through Houston on one of our extravagant family vacations down to Galveston.

There was a Luthers in College Station when I started as a freshman in 1985. Had a couple of friends that worked there. It was on Texas Avenue where Big O Tires is now.

Correct. Pappas bought them about 20 years ago.

There was one by my old apartment on Westheimer/ S Gessner in Houston that had a had a drive-thru as early as the 90s. The best of both worlds - the gluttony of BBQ and the sloth of not wanting to actually get of the car to acquire it.

I am pretty sure the College Station Luthers had a drive thru in 1985.

I learned to work a pit at Luther's at Jones road and Hwy 6.

Worked at the place that opened in CS when it opened. It was the most bizarre place I ever worked at. It lasted maybe a year. It couldn't survive the employees taking meat out the back door. Literal cases of ribs going from the walk in cooler to the car at night.

The assistant manager was from Peru. His family would send him packages with Peruvian bang bang powder. He would open his mail up at the store and do a rail ad he closed things down. Back then the mail system was a little more unsecure about stuff like that.

Was that guy's name Max? For some reason that name sticks in my head from my friends that worked there. Seems like I remember them saying he was a hothead too.

I think it was Ricardo? It was 30 years ago.

I can remember playing cards at someone apartment after we closed and he came in from the bathroom with coke all over his upper lip.

Back in high school, I worked at the Colters in Hurst. Most of our hostesses/bread girls were cheerleaders from Bell HS. Our manager knew what he was doing.

The Arlington store is only one I know that still exists

Barbecue before most of us knew how good it could be., or how much we'd pay for it.
